Welcome to the Mobile Sim Digest!

We are thrilled to kick off the inaugural edition of the Mobile Sim Digest, the official UAB Clinical Simulation Mobile Simulation Program newsletter!

Here, we'll be taking you on a quarterly ride through the many highlights of 2024. Our continuing partnerships have been nothing short of extraordinary, and we can't wait to share the experiences that have left an indelible mark on our learners.

Words on the Street

Mobile Sim Team Brings Trauma, Postpartum Hemorrhage Sims to Russell Medical

In the heart of Russell Medical Center, our team orchestrated a riveting trauma simulation, focusing on rapid, precise physical examinations and interventions for traumatic injuries.

One of our avid learners encapsulated the essence perfectly, stating, "We enjoy every simulation experience. It's always fun, engaging, and I always learn something new."

The postpartum hemorrhage simulation at Russell was no less impactful.

Dr. Sharon Phelan, adjunct professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in UAB's Heersink School of Medicine, graced our postpartum hemorrhage simulation with a wealth of knowledge. Learners had the unique opportunity to practice their response to maternal hemorrhages, employing uterotonics and tamponade devices.

CPR Like Never Before: RCDP at Northwest Regional Health and Lakeland Community Hospital

Venturing to Northwest Regional Health in Winfield, Ala., and Lakeland Community Hospital in Haleyville, Ala., we engaged in a Rapid Cycle Deliberate Practice (RCDP), focusing on the initial five steps of a code.

RCDP is a methodology that sees participants rapidly cycle between deliberate practice and directed feedback until they’ve effectively mastered the subject.

Facilitators liken it to athletic training, wherein the learner practices and then pauses, during which time the facilitator coaches with constructive feedback, before resuming or starting over.

The learner feedback from Lakeland was resounding, with one participant noting, "This simulation is better than any other CPR class I have taken in the last four years."
