Tyndale's Community BBQs Are Finally Back!

We are thrilled to announce that Tyndale's much-anticipated Community BBQ took place Friday, May 17th. It was an outstanding success, marking our first large-scale community event since the 2020 pandemic. With a remarkable turnout of 400 people, it was an incredible afternoon filled with fun and memorable activities.

From exciting games to mouthwatering food, the Tyndale BBQ brought our community together in a celebration of togetherness and joy. We extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us, making the event even more special with your presence and support.

A special shoutout goes to our dedicated volunteers and coordinators who worked tirelessly to ensure everything ran smoothly. Your commitment and hard work were truly appreciated.

Events like community barbecues not only provide an opportunity for people to enjoy delicious food and participate in engaging activities, but they also foster a sense of togetherness and unity. They allow individuals to connect with their neighbors, make new friends, and strengthen community bonds.

A special thank you to Quadra Chemicals Ltd for supporting this event and donating their time.

See you at next year's Tyndale Community BBQ!

Father's Group - New at Tyndale

In January 2023, Tyndale started a Father's Group, which takes place every other Tuesday from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM. The purpose of this group is to provide a platform for fathers to come together, share their experiences, and engage in discussions on various topics related to fatherhood.

Jason Fraser, the group facilitator, a community member who grew up in Little Burgundy, guides the discussions and creates an environment where fathers can connect with each other, seek advice, and gain insights into the challenges and joys of being a dad.

It's a wonderful opportunity for fathers to connect with like-minded individuals, learn from each other's experiences, and strengthen their skills as parents.

If you are interested in joining the Father's Group at Tyndale, be sure to mark your calendar for the designated Tuesdays and make the most of this supportive community.

Cooking with Jila

Nobody's Perfect

Cooking With Jila workshops are back in person!

Cooking workshops help parents develop good eating habits. Parents learn from each other and develop healthy habits by trying out a variety of nutritious recipes, which they can then incorporate into their routine at home.

This exchange between parents offers support and respite to parents, while helping them to develop their knowledge of food and nutrition.

If you'd like to participate in the next cooking workshop, send us an email jilaguerami@tyndalestgeorges.com or call 514 931 6265 ext. 36

Nobody's Perfect Workshops are for parents of 0-5 year old children.

Within a group setting facilitated by Steven, Tyndale's Family Support Worker, and Jila, Early Childhood Educator, parents participate in sessions that:

  • Promote positive parenting
  • Increase parents’ understanding of children’s health, safety and
  • behavior
  • Help parents build on the skills they have and learn new ones
  • Improve parents’ self-esteem and coping skills
  • Increase self-help and mutual support
  • Put parents in contact with community services and resources

Nobody's Perfect was developed by Health Canada.

Nobody's Perfect will be offered again in October. Keep an eye out for registration dates on our social media.

Tyndale's Seniors Go Shopping!

Tyndale's Food Train for Seniors Program offers a variety of beneficial services to address the challenges faced by seniors in Little Burgundy, which is often considered a food desert as it is lacking affordable grocery stores.

Through this program, seniors have the opportunity to participate in weekly workshops covering a range of topics such as food preparation, budgeting, recipe sharing, and cooking skills. These workshops aim to empower seniors and enhance their knowledge in these areas.

In addition to the workshops, Tyndale's Food Train provides transportation services once a month for seniors residing in Little Burgundy. This transportation ensures their access to major grocery stores, where they can find a wider selection of affordable food options. The program also offers assistance with reaching, packing, carrying, and delivering groceries to seniors' homes, alleviating the burden of these tasks.

For further details or to inquire about the program, individuals can contact Angela Vincelette at angelavincelette@tyndalestgeorges.com or call 514-931-6265 ext 20. Tyndale's Food Train for Seniors Program strives to improve food accessibility and provide valuable support to seniors in need.

Career Fair & Mentorship Program - A Partnership With The Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences at McGill University

Career Fair

In collaboration with the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences at McGill University, the Children Youth & Families Department organized a career fair for the youth. The event featured various careers, including social workers, doctors, dentists, artists, authors, accounting, engineering, and much more. The career fair aimed to provide young individuals with a comprehensive overview of different professions and help them explore their interests and potential career paths. By bringing together professionals from diverse fields, the fair offered an opportunity for the youth to interact with experts, ask questions, and gain insights into various career trajectories. The collaboration between the Children Youth and Families Department and McGill University's Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences added expertise and credibility to the event, further enhancing its impact.

Mentorship Program

The McGill Dental Inclusion Program, led by the students of the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences from McGill University, is a non-profit mentorship program that aims to support and guide high school students participating in Tyndale's High School Perseverance Program. By meeting with the students twice a month, the university mentors provide assistance and guidance to the youth, including help with their school work.

One of the key objectives of the program is to introduce high school students to the field of dentistry and other STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medicine) related careers. The mentors, who are enthusiastic and passionate about these fields, aim to inspire and educate the students about the opportunities available in dentistry and other STEMM disciplines.

Through this mentorship program, the university students not only contribute to the academic development of the high school participants but also serve as role models, providing guidance and support for personal growth and perseverance. The program fosters a sense of inclusivity, promoting diversity and equal access to educational and career opportunities in the field of dentistry and STEMM.
