Kitten Season Arrives Early in Evansville
Flowers aren't the only things blooming early this winter. A warm winter is already leading to more pregnant cats than we generally see this time of year, and "kitten season" is expected to arrive as early as March.
Groups like Feline Fix in Evansville are drowning in cats and kittens. Almost out of money to address a situation involving 50 cats and kittens, Feline Fix was notified of 30 additional cats in need of help. SNSI was able to provide some relief to Feline Fix by issuing free surgery certificates. Jamie Taylor of Feline Fix added, "Thanks to SNSI's community cat vouchers, we have started off 2017 with all paws running, and we expect to facilitate close to 400 surgeries in 2017!"
Please help SNSI support the work of community cat programs across the state. These groups will be especially hard hit this year, and most are all-volunteer organizations. Remember that community cat programs are the most strategic way to get shelters to no-kill status, and that dogs also benefit from these strategic programs. Your donation changes lives!

Animal Groups Can Voluntarily Register
SNSI encourages Indiana shelters and rescue groups to register with the Indiana Board of Animal Health Registry. Established as part of last year's House Bill 1201, the voluntary registry helps compile data the animal welfare community needs to best understand available services across the state. Registering is quick and easy. Register here.

SNSI Recognizes Lawson, Karickoff, in Statehouse Ceremony
On February 13, SNSI and the ASPCA recognized Representatives Linda Lawson and Mike Karickoff for their vital legislative work to pass a law requiring shelters and rescue groups to spay-neuter before adoption. Indiana joins 33 other states with similar, life-saving legislation. In response to the award, Lawson said that the real award will be in "knowing that we're not euthanizing ... knowing that animals are safe."

Success Breeds Success
SNSI continues to work with organizations across Indiana that are making amazing progress toward zero kill. Here are two examples of Indiana shelters making tremendous progress:
It is wonderful to see some amazing efforts of groups being able to get to zero kill. But, we know these systems are delicate and that a single hoarding situation, spring litters, or a rash of strays or owner surrenders can overwhelm a shelter once again. SNSI will continue to work with shelters and organizations to move Indiana toward zero kill by supporting spaying and neutering. Your donation helps move every Indiana shelter to zero kill.
