Update from the Peruvian Amazon July 14, 2020
Last year, the Center for Amazon Community Ecology held 23 workshops with our partners in Loreto to help them make better handicrafts, plant more trees, strengthen their organizations, and improve cooperation in their communities. The corona virus pandemic has forced us to refocus our work on helping our partners survive this crisis, and we will get through it together.
SHOP FAIR-TRADE ONLINE
GIVE THE GIFTS THAT GIVE BACK

We miss seeing so many friends at music festivals this summer!

We still want to help you, however, find something special for you or a gift for a special person in your life. Please check out our beautiful baskets, ornaments, and other crafts that were hand-made by our artisan partners from the Peruvian Amazon in our online store.

Your purchase of these fair-trade crafts is very important now since COVID-19 has devastated the livelihood of artisan families and is impacting the well-being of everyone in their communities.

CACE will dedicate 25% of our craft sale profits through the end of the year to help our artisan partners and their communities cope with the COVID crisis.

We are adding new products to our online store every week, and many of them are one of a kind.

COVID IMPACT IN PERU
AMAZON COMMUNITIES NEED OUR HELP

We were in the middle of doing an artisan workshop in mid-March when COVID hit, the Peruvian government quickly shut down travel and most businesses. In spite of the strict quarantine, the virus rampaged through Iquitos and hospitals were overwhelmed. All four members of our CACE team there got sick, but fortunately they have now all recovered.

Our partners in remote villages had relatively few cases in April and May, but they were suffering from the loss of craft sales and most other sources of income.

COVID, however, has finally reached them. Traditional medicines have helped some, but a few of our friends in the Ampiyacu region have already died and the situation is getting worse. See our full report.

We are now raising $10,000 to send medicines and vital supplies to 600 families in our partner communities.

A donation of just $15 can help treat one sick villager.
We envision Amazonia as the place where people create sustainable livelihoods, form vibrant communities, and regenerate the world’s largest rainforest. CACE is committed to help make this dream a reality. Please join us.
