Proposed 2024 amendments for the City of Austin’s technical building codes will be in review during April and May. Information about the code amendment process, including how to participate, is now available on the project webpage.
Two of the codes, the International Building and Swimming Pool and Spa codes, are currently open for review and feedback. The City of Austin Development Services Department will host a webinar on April 9, 2024, to share information about these two codes. Feedback on these codes will be accepted on the project webpage through April 19.
In May, DSD, Austin Energy, and Austin Fire plan to share proposed amendments to the International Residential, Property Maintenance, Energy Conservation, Fire, and Wildland-Urban Interface codes, as well as the Uniform Mechanical and Plumbing codes. Visit the project webpage to learn more about all proposed amendments and opportunities to participate.
The City updates its Technical Building Code requirements as needed to align with standards set by the International Code Council (ICC) and International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO). Local amendments focus on simplifying the codes, aligning code to support City and State requirements, and maintaining a favorable insurance rating in the city. The Austin City Council will review the 2024 codes and any needed local amendments prior to adoption later this year.
If you have questions about the proposed amendments, please visit the project webpage. If you have questions about the webinar, please contact dsdcommunications@austintexas.gov.
