Update From St. Boniface Sister Parish in Kenya

Father Edwin recently inquired about how we are at St Boniface and the Oratory and wrote: "Greetings from the parishioners as you can see a few here in front of our renovated part of the rectory. Blessings!”

In The Link at the end of June, we shared information about the renovation in-progress for the Rectory at our Sister Parish, St Mark’s in Lokitaung, Turkana, Kenya. Father Edwin sent us this photo of the completed project with several parishioners standing in front of it. He is happy to have the additional space as he has a new priest assisting in the parish at this time. Drought is again impacting the Turkana region. He says it is a trying time without rain. The area is once again becoming dry. Since people live off of the land and their animals need pasture, dryness is a real hardship.

In response to a message we sent to Father Edwin shortly after our recent big rain storms, he wrote: "We warmly receive greetings from you and the entire community of the Oratory Church of St. Boniface, our Dear sister Parish. We are really sorry for the challenge of heavy storms that recently affected you. Indeed let us embrace the spirit of "LAUDATO SI"- Care for our common home (if we can try not to degrade the land) as Pope Francis urges us.... Back here in Africa, there is a discussion going on predicting greater Nino. This calls for earlier disaster preparedness.....Otherwise we remain humbled as you continue holding us dearly. As usual we too always remember you in our sacrifice of Masses and we continue to ask God to embrace you dearly as His favoured children."

As we begin a new pastoral year at the Oratory, let us continue to support our sisters and brothers from our Sister Parish with our prayers.

Going to Mass with Your Children

At one time or another we all struggle with getting our family to Mass. Whatever the reason, we can always go to Mass with a better attitude. So what can we do to allow the experience of the Mass to truly be an encounter with Jesus? Here are some tips: https://youtu.be/a_QGxfA-eFk (2 minute video).

Volunteers Needed for ABVM Coffee Hours

ABVM will be hosting a coffee hour once a month after the 9:30am Mass. Volunteers are needed to bring goodies (baked goods, bagels, fruit etc.) and to help with set-up and clean-up. The currently scheduled dates for coffee hours are: November 12, Dec 3, Jan 14.

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Coleen McGrath at coleen.mcgrath@gmail.com. We look forward to hearing from you!

Are you high school or college-aged and want to complete your sacraments?

The Brooklyn Oratory parishes invite these members of our community to become part of the “Blessed Carlo Acutis Program,” aimed at assisting them to continue their faith journey and fully become part of the Church. The program is named for recently-beatified Carlo Acutis, who was noted for his cheerfulness, being a “computer geek,” and for his deep devotion to the Eucharist. All inquiries are welcome! Contact Fr. Vin Biagi, S.J. at vbiagi@oratorychurch.org.
