Welcome Message from the Newcomb-Tulane College Advising Team
|
Dear Tulane Families,
Welcome to Tulane! As an advisor with over 20 years experience in education, I am excited to help lead the Newcomb-Tulane College Advisors that will support your student during their time at Tulane. As Associate Director of Student Engagement, my role is to support students, advisors, and campus partners through the Newcomb-Tulane College (NTC) Core Curriculum while assessing academic options, policies, and support resources.
Our advisors are ready to meet your students this summer to complete their fall registration. Information on how we manage registration for new students is on our Incoming Student website. Over the summer, we will post new communication or information as it comes available.
By the end of next week, your student will receive an email to their Tulane email from College Advising inviting them to make a mandatory advising appointment between June 10th and July 12th. Students must register for an appointment. At their appointment time, their registration access will be activated in order to make changes while students are meeting with our advising team.
A few helpful notes as you support your student through registration from home:
-
If you missed our Family Programs webinar on Supporting Your Student Through Academic Planning and Course Registration held May 21, 2024, you can watch the video recording or review the slides on your own.
- Please ensure your student has engaged in the online modules set up by our First-Year Experience Team. (Parents may enjoy following the FYE Instagram feed.)
- Summer advising appointments are for students! Support your student post-appointment and when they adjust their schedule over the summer.
-
When searching for classes on the schedule of classes, your student should keep in mind that what is available on the day of the search may change by the day of the appointment. Our team is keenly aware of required classes that are full and will continue to work with college leadership to meet real course needs for first semester students.
- We have placed an advisor registration hold on all students with June or July meetings. These holds are lifted on the day of the student's appointment.
-
Students will have 72 hours to make schedule changes before their registration closes again. All students will have access to schedule changes again beginning on July 14th this summer.
- It is always advantageous for students to have several interests and backup course ideas written down before their appointments. We may use these in a first semester schedule or plan it for a future semester. Either way, it helps us to know your student.
- The advisors that your students meet this summer will likely not be the advisor your student works with this fall. However, our advisors are a team, and we are all here to support everyone throughout the summer.
Thank you!
Heather Cooper (she/her/hers)

The transition from high school to college can be a rewarding but challenging time for many students and their families, and students with disabilities have an extra step to navigate this transition. The Goldman Center for Student Accessibility is here to provide insight, guidance, and information for your student at each step of the way. Now that your student is committed and confirmed for starting in the fall, they are welcome to apply for disability accommodations. Students can request accommodations at any time; however, for incoming fall semester students, we recommend beginning the process in the summer well before arriving on campus in August. The process can sometimes take several weeks, so encourage your student to start as soon as possible. The professional staff in the Goldman Center are ready to help!
-
Follow this link to information specifically for entering new students – an overview with important deadlines, information on the transition from high school to college for students with disabilities, and FAQs.
-
For instructions on how your student can request disability accommodations, please refer to the Request Accommodations page on the website.
-
For even more background, watch the video or review the slides of our May 23, 2024 Accessibility at Tulane Family Programs webinar.
On your student's Move-In Day in August, plan to attend the Goldman Center Orientation, which will be offered each of the first-year student Move-In Days before formal Hullabaloo Hello orientation programming begins. This open-house style orientation is offered for students and their families who are interested in academic, dining, and housing accommodations. There will also be a tour of our Testing Center and an opportunity to meet key members of the Goldman Team. Orientations will be held Sunday, Monday & Tuesday, August 11, 12, and 13, 2024, from 1 - 4 p.m. at the Goldman Center for Student Accessibility in Suite B25, Howard Tilton Memorial Library (Bldg. #60 on the campus map), 7001 Freret Street.
You can also email the Goldman Center for Student Accessibility at goldman@tulane.edu or call 504-862-8433 for any questions.

Student Accounts Receivable - Tulane Student Billing Procedures
|
Student Accounts Receivable is the Tulane department that manages and processes billing and payments. Bills are emailed directly to students, but your student should invite you as an authorized user to log in to the student’s account, and view and pay their bills from the Accounts Receivable website at studentaccounts.tulane.edu. Students may find instructions online to add authorized users. Also, to communicate with anyone other than the student, Accounts Receivable will need an Authorization for Release of Information (FERPA) form from the student, available on our website under Forms & Documents. Students may submit the completed form to Accounts Receivable, in person with a photo ID, or by fax to 504-862-8758 with a copy of a picture ID. Submitting the Release of Information form does not grant online access to records.
How to manage your student’s Tulane statement
- Accounts Receivable sends monthly statements to the student’s tulane.edu email address. The student may invite parents to view their accounts. Currently, parents can receive a paper statement by request.
- Parents cannot access student account information online without accepting the student’s invitation. Again, because the privacy of students’ university records is governed by law, the student’s invitation is necessary.
- Once authorized by the student, the parent can log in to the student’s account to see and pay the bill.
- Bills include tuition, fees, room, board, insurance, miscellaneous purchases, library fines, etc.
- Fall 2024 tuition is due August 15. The online statement will be viewable by July 15. Spring 2025 tuition is due January 15. The spring ’25 online statement will be viewable by December 15.
- Payments can be made by check, ACH, or credit card. A convenience fee (currently 2.95%, minimum 3.00) is added to credit card payments.
- Subsequent purchases a student charges against their student account (bookstore or computer store, additional dining Wave Bucks, etc.) will be billed monthly and are due on the 15th of each month (or the last working day prior to the 15th) to avoid a finance charge, assessed at an 18% annual percentage rate.
Payment options and payment plan
The Accounts Receivable website has instructions on available payment options and the Tulane Installment Prepayment Plan (TIPP). Enrollment in TIPP is open now. The plan enrollment deadlines are: 4-month plan - June 13, 3-month plan is July 14, and 2-month plan is August 14.
For any billing related questions, please contact Student Accounts Receivable.

Register for a Hello Wave Reception Near You This Summer!
|
Do you wonder who else from your area is headed to Tulane this coming year? Well, wonder no more by attending a Hello Wave reception for incoming students and their families. These in-person events allow you to connect in your hometown with past, current, and future Tulanians before your student heads to campus.
Many events include Tulane representatives from Student Affairs, Newcomb-Tulane College, and Alumni Relations who will be available to answer your questions as your student gets ready to join the Tulane family.
These 2-hour, casual events take place across the U.S. from mid-June through early August. Check out the complete list and register for a Hello Wave event near you. Incoming students and families are welcome to attend the Hello Wave in their hometown or any other Hello Wave event across the country. More events will be added throughout the summer, so check back later if you do not see an event near you. If you have any questions, contact Valerie Calenda at vtimmer@tulane.edu.
