FFA National Scholarship Information
FFA Scholarship applications are due Feb. 6 and all supplement forms are due Feb. 13. Apply today at www.FFA.org/Scholarships

FFA is aware that during the government shutdown, students completing FAFSA may experience some hiccups for tasks that require information from another agency impacted by the shutdown, such as the Internal Revenue Service. For students who had not started their FAFSA prior to the shutdown and don’t have access to copies of their parents’ or their own tax returns from last year may not be able to complete FAFSA prior to the close of the FFA Scholarship application.

To ensure that all students have the opportunity to complete the FFA Scholarship application, they have removed the “form forced requirement” to input data into the FAFSA application fields. However, applicants selected to receive a needs-based award will be required to provide this documentation during the award acceptance process. If you have questions about this process, email FFA@applyists.com .

A Note from Sarah Sparks
This week I processed all checks for those who received a Learning By Doing Grant. I also processed all checks for those who brought members to work in the concessions booth or help at the Rodeo; Scholar Dollars. Checks should arrive next week.

Please be sure to return the “Donation Claim” form once you receive your check. It is required for the accountant.
If you received a grant, you will also need to complete the “Reporting” form and return it when you have completed your project.

Have a wonderful weekend!
Thank you so much for participating in the Foundation’s program!

SAE SPOTLIGHT
AET Score-sheets available
If you and your students are involved in any type of recordbook scoring activity, there are sample score-sheets available on paffa.org/association in the Supervised Agriculture Experience section; File name: 2019 AET SAE Score-sheet Examples pdf. These score-sheets were developed by Neil Fellenbaum and are used at the Lancaster County recordbook evaluation event. If you would like to have the file in an editable format, email to Carole Fay and she can send the file to you. Remember: better/more complete SAE records lead to award winning FFA Applications!!!

Proficiency Review Reminder!!!
As your FFA members are reviewing their SAE program/projects from last year, encourage them to apply for proficiency awards.

The application is located in AET: Reports Tab: Degree/Application Manager/Pull down menu to Proficiency application/Add New.

Read the instructions and they are on their way! The application pulls in information from the AET recordbook and there are questions to answer throughout the application. The questions include explanations of the involvement/responsibilities/growth that is shown by the FFA member. It is NOT about who owns the most……. Or who has earned the most….. it is about who has LEARNED the most in knowledge/skills from the project area that they can use toward a future career. There are helpful hints and tips all through the application. Applications and recordbooks will be reviewed at SLLC at the State Proficiency Review. Winners will be sent home for editing and then will be submitted to National FFA for review. The top four candidates in that review process will be invited to the National FFA Convention for an interview. The interviews are low-key.. NOT a public speaking contest.. just a time to explain to a panel of judges what they have learned through their SAE project. There are lots of tips/examples/old applications on the paffa website the ffa.org. Your SAE Specialist and the PA FFA Board SAE committee are available for help/reviewing applications.

SAE/AET recordkeeping guides/links
Here is a link to some helpful, how-to recordkeeping guides from AET.

LET’S ZOOM!!!!
If you/your students need help with anything SAE related, let’s set up a Zoom call!
What is Zoom? It is a web-based audio/visual plateform (webinar) where I can come into your classroom via the internet. I will send you a link, you access the link with your computer and away we go! My computer screen can be projected in your classroom. It’s almost as good as being there! Some topics can be: Starting SAE projects, End of the Year Financial Records, Preparing for Next Year’s Keystone Degree.

Mentors in Agriculture Conservation (MAC)
Mentors in Agricultural Conservation (MAC) is a CBF job-shadowing program for student leaders in Pennsylvania that pairs FFA/4H students with CBF’s restoration specialists. The restoration specialists partner with farmers, helping them implement soil- and water-conservation strategies that ensure a healthy, profitable farm for generations to come. MAC students work alongside the specialist and the farmer while gaining real-life experience for a career in agricultural conservation.

After their field experience, students meet with college career advisors to learn more about the academic path to becoming an agricultural conservation specialist. The program culminates with a 5-day trip to the Chesapeake Bay, where students study how farmland is part of the Chesapeake Bay watershed and the Bay.
