Message from CEO Dr. Dale Owen

A year ago today, the first few Tryon Medical Partners offices were two months into operation. We were working on overdrive to open the last few locations, managing evening and weekend appointments to keep our patients on track. It was exciting, and sometimes exhausting.

More than a year later, our practice is still busy and growing! Eight locations, 500+ employees and more than 118,000 patients later, we have successfully given our community a real choice when it comes to healthcare. We are improving outcomes by strengthening relationships between patient and provider, and among all Tryon Medical team partners.

There is still much to be done to right the wrongs of “big healthcare,” but it’s important to take the time to reflect on how far we have come. Our patients appreciate every long shift, afterwork phone call and sacrifice you have made to bring us this far. THANK YOU for your commitment and dedication to our mission. I am so proud of Team Tryon.

Tryon Team Tips from Human Resources

Please remember to review and approve your timecard.
Our offices will be closed Thursday, Nov. 28, in observance of Thanksgiving. Normal business hours will resume Friday, Nov. 29.
As year-end approaches, if you participate in the Health Savings Plan (HSA), check your annual contributions to ensure you won’t over contribute for 2019. The HSA incentives do not automatically stop so you must update your HSA elections in Paylocity. The IRS allows an annual contribution of $3,500 for employee only and $7,000 for family. If you are 55 or older, you can contribute an additional $1,000. Please contact Human Resources for more information.

When "Small Talk" Becomes a HIPAA Violation

Last week, I was speaking with a friend who relayed the following story: While attending a banquet, she sat next to a healthcare employee from the local hospital. She and the employee began to chat, and during the conversation, the employee began to discuss a patient. The employee did not use the patient's name but described her using sufficient details.

As the employee talked, my friend realized the employee was discussing her own sister! What do you think happened next?

The employee and my friend met for ice cream.
My friend contacted the healthcare facility.
My friend hugged the employee and said, “Thank you for discussing details surrounding my sister.”

You guessed it, #2. The lesson from this is to stay compliant and not discuss patients unless it is with appropriate colleagues or persons who have a business need to know.

Terri Nixon Moves to Tryon Direct

SouthPark 7 and 8 say goodbye to Terri Nixon, who has served as Practice Manager since the very beginning of Tryon Medical Partners. We will miss Terri, but she won't be going far! Terri is moving to the Tryon Direct team to be the Live Answer Nurse. Congratulations, Terri!

MedAssist 5K

Sixty-two team partners signed up for the MedAssist 5K held Saturday, Oct. 26 ! Tryon Medical Partners was a proud sponsor of the event, benefiting our community by raising money to provide life-saving medications to those in need. We placed third with our donation total of $2,988.61! Thanks to all who participated.
