Truckee Tahoe Gravel - Volunteers Needed

Saturday, June 29, 2024

Bike Monkey is looking for all-star volunteers to help produce one of the coolest, rowdiest gravel bike races around! Join the Bike Monkey crew this Saturday at the Truckee Tahoe Gravel race on June 29th in beautiful Truckee.

Every volunteer gets a commemorative “crew” t-shirt, a commemorative water bottle, and an invitation to our annual volunteer appreciation party. If you volunteer 4+ hours we even feed you!

Can’t work cause you’re riding? That’s cool. We like that. But maybe a friend, partner, or family member would have more fun slinging swag, beer, or kudos than just hangin’ out while you roll through the mountains?

Join the fun at one or more of the following volunteer positions:

  • Aid Station - Cheer on racers throughout the course at various aid stations. Keep drinks and snacks well stocked for our riders (and sneak a few for yourself)
  • Packet Pick-up / Registration - Assist riders upon their arrival to the festival venue
  • Finish Line Greeter - Be the first to congratulate our riders on a job well done!
  • Stationary Marshals - Help riders stay on course

Your volunteer efforts help us raise funds for the Truckee Trails Foundation, who build and maintain the trails we're so lucky to ride! There's no better way to have fun and make a difference.

VIEW RECORDING: Good Morning Truckee - Washiw Voices: Past, Present & Future

Last week we were honored to have Wašišiw (the People from Here) tribal leaders speak to a packed room at Good Morning Truckee. Thank you to all who attended this special event.

Serrell Smokey, Tribal Council Chairman of the Washoe Tribe of Nevada & California, Dr. Lisa Grayshield, Executive Director with the Washiw Zulshish Gum Tahn-Nu, and Darrel Cruz, Retired Tribal Historian Preservation Officer, shared their perspectives on the past, present, and future of Wašišiw (the People from Here). Revered elder Frank Grayshield ended the presentation with a prayer and insights. Youth tribal council representatives also participated.

We learned a lot about Washiw history, language, businesses, their tribe’s support programs, their connection to the land, and a Land Back fundraising initiative that could provide Washiw people access to their ancestral land in the Tahoe region.

We also heard a brief end of school year update and thank you from Kerstin Kramer, Chief Learning Officer and Superintendent of Tahoe Truckee Unified School District. Thanks to Rory O'Farrell and Tahoe Truckee Media, you can view the recording.
