Worship this Sunday

Join us for worship this Sunday, May 26th for Trinity Sunday. Our summer intern, Erica, will preach and lead us through the worship service. We will have the joy of welcoming our newest members, Pat & David Woody and Ashley Lee near the beginning of the service.  Our scripture focus will be from John 3 where Nicodemus comes to Jesus in the middle of the night to see for himself who Jesus is.  We will hear one of the most famous Bible passages, John 3:16 and will help guide us in our understanding of referring to God as One-in-Three and Three-in-One.  Join us for a wonderful service!

Watch the service live on our Facebook page at 10:30 a.m.

Summer Intern at Highland

Our presbytery has a program where church members can go through training to be certified as a Commission Lay Pastor to serve in various contexts and situations. This summer, Highland will be the host church for Erica Patton as she goes through this training process. Erica is a member of First Presbyterian Church Lafollette and is excited to spend time with Highland learning and growing in God’s calling to her life. Read a bit about her below.

Hi Everyone, I am Erica Patton a lifelong East Tennessee resident growing up in Lake City, now known as Rocky Top, TN. I have a twin sister, Erin, that lives in St. Louis, MO and an older sister, Christa, that lives in Las Vegas, NV.  My parents now live in Lebanon, TN and are retired elementary school principals.  I am a huge sports fan, especially basketball and football.  I am also a cat lady and play video games every chance I get.  Other hobbies include trying my hand at growing flowers which is going well so far. I work full time in an outpatient physical therapy clinic in Knoxville.  I look forward to spending the next few months getting to worship with you and getting to know each of you.  I am in the current commission lay pastor program with the presbytery and will be with you May through July.  Blessings to you all.

Juneteenth Presbytery Worship Service

Erin Presbyterian Church

What is the newest federal holiday in the U.S.? If you guessed Juneteenth, you would be correct. In 2021, President Joe Biden signed the “Juneteenth National Independence Day Act,” forever designating June 19th as America’s 12th federal holiday!

Sadly, the history and significance of Juneteenth is still unknown by many Americans, and the occasion’s passing often sparks little observance outside Black churches and communities. Perhaps White churches fear incurring accusations of misappropriating Black history and culture? But what could be more fundamental to America than marking another milepost in achieving liberty for all her citizens?

On Sunday June 23rd , Erin Presbyterian, 200 Lockett Road, Knoxville, will observe Juneteenth with a 10 a.m. worship service including an original choral reading, poetry, liberation hymns, special piano/organ selections, and the rich baritone voice of recognized guest artist Maurice Hendricks. Interim Pastor Anne McKee and the Erin congregation welcome all guests

to this celebration of freedom!
