Fifth Sunday in Lent

Our God makes all things new. In the first reading God promises it. In the gospel Mary anticipates it, anointing Jesus’ feet with costly perfume in preparation for the day of his burial. In the second reading Paul recalls his transformation from the persecutor Saul into an apostle. In baptism, God’s new person (you!) rises daily from the deadly mire of trespasses and sins.

Do not remember the former things, or consider the things of old. I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? Isaiah 43:18-19a

Dear Friends!

Easter is in 2 weeks! Our Easter Sunday schedule is as follows:

-7:00 a.m. Easter Sunrise Worship at South Park (bring your own chairs)

-9:30 a.m. Worship

-10:30 a.m. Easter Egg Hunt (on the east lawn)

-10:30—11:00 a.m. “Muncher’s Brunch” in the Fellowship Hall with Alchemy Coffee

-11:00 a.m. Worship

-Leading up to Easter, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday services will be at

12:15 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

The Property Committee is completing an overall assessment of our beautiful

building and grounds entrusted to us by previous generations. A joint Council,

Property and Finance meeting is scheduled next month with the Regional

Representative of the Mission Investment Fund of our ELCA to help us assess our

potential for fulfilling our needs.

Within those overall needs the estimate for replacing the carpet, removing or replacing

the tiles, painting and lighting is $50,000. If we were to receive that amount through

special gifts such as Required Minimum Distributions (RMD’s), we can proceed.

If refurbishing the Fellowship Hall is a part of an overall plan, it may not occur

until 2023 or later.

Faithfully, hopefully, and lovingly,

Pastor Jeff

Jan Christian Smuts (1870-1950), statesman, soldier and life-long scholar, coined the term 'Holism' to designate his idea of ultimate reality.

He was born near the cape of Good Hope, South Africa, to a Boer farming family. For Smuts Holism was the real, active cause of all processes in the universe and is inherent in it, not external to it. In his article on 'Holism' he says, 'Eternity is contained in time, matter is the vesture and vehicle of the spirit, reality is not a transcendent or other worldly order, but is imminent in the phenomenal' (Smuts, 1929, p. 642b).

In the “Old Testament the person was viewed as a whole. The Hebrews interpreted “Brokenness as spiritual, emotional and physical brokenness all at once. In the Old Testament this was attributed to a “broken relationship with god. When healed, they were made whole.” (Christian Caregiving a Way of Life, Haugk, 1984, p.62 & 63)

Jesus teaches a holistic approach to our relationships with God and others. “Love the Lord our God or with all your Heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind”(Matt. 22:27).

Is a wonderful part of a child’s summer break. I have had the privilege of volunteering with VBS for a number of years through our partnership with Plymouth and First Baptist Churches. I’m looking for someone to serve as our Trinity liaison that would help plan and coordinate with the other churches in the rotation. First Baptist is hosting this summer 2022 (date TBD). If you are interested or would like to know more, please let me know. Call or text me at 785-760-4678 or email:
