Dean Search Update

Dear Trinity,

It's June already. This year feels as if it's passing so quickly. There is a lot going on at the Cathedral and it's both exhilarating and - occasionally - exhausting. That's the nature of change, right?

We are still in the early stages of our process for finding a new Dean for the Cathedral and this note is to bring you up to date.

To recap: Canon Anita Braden, Canon to the Ordinary and Chief of Staff at the Diocese (which means she is our guide through the hiring process) facilitated two "day of discernment" congregational meetings this spring with both English and Spanish speaking parishioners. At those meetings participants were asked to name and reflect on core values at Trinity today. Participants also offered some key attributes, skills and qualities Trinity might look for in a Dean. This was accomplished through telling stories of our best experiences of being a member of the Cathedral and talking about our values and worship styles. My impression is that participants engaged in thoughtful discussions and ideas.

Help us serve dinner at Andre House

Thursdays | 3-7 p.m.

Andre House

Our first few weeks of serving dinner to hundreds of people in need at Andre House have gone well, but we could use a few more people to help out. We have now been set up with a group account through Andre House's online volunteer website, and through this link you can make an individual profile tied to our group.

This will allow you to pick and choose the dates you are able to serve.

Water Donations Needed

With highs already in the 90s, we have seen an increase in our unhoused neighbors coming to our campus and asking for water. To help serve those most vulnerable to the summer heat, we are asking for donations of cases of bottled water, sunscreen, and other items that can help them survive the months to come.

Chapel Rock Adult Camp

July 1st - 4th

Escape for a spiritual retreat to the pines near Prescott, unplug from the busyness of daily life to listen to God and one another. Registration is still open for Chapel Rock's Camp for Adults, which will feature the book "The Way of Love" as a guide and a presentation by our own The Reverend Canon Veronica Ritson! More information is available at the link below:

Voter Registration Deadline for Arizona's Primary Approaching!

Primary registration deadline: July 1st

The deadline to register to vote in Arizona's presidential primary is July 1st. Ballots to those voting by mail will begin to go out on July 3rd, and July 23rd is the last day for those ballots to be placed in the mail to be counted.

Arizona law requires those registered Independent or No Party Declared must specify which party's ballot they would like ahead of the election. To check or update your address, party affiliation, and other voting information with the Maricopa County Recorder's office, click on the link below:

Help us prepare snack bags for our unhoused neighbors

We are seeing more frequent visits from our unhoused neighbors this summer than in years past. To try and better serve them, we are hoping to begin assembling bags of snacks to go with the water we are already providing. If you would like to help us in this effort, we are requesting donations of snack items to put in the bags. The best snacks follow these guidelines:

  • Soft snacks are best. Unhoused folks often have weak teeth.
  • Salty snacks help folks drink more water, replace salt lost to sweat, and actually improve hydration.
  • Sugary snacks elevate mood and provide energy.
  • Plastic grocery bags make useful totes when the snacks are gone.

Examples of the kinds of items which meet these criteria are mini muffins, potato chips, Nutri-Grain bars, and boxes of portable tuna or chicken salad. Donations can be left behind the desk in the Olney Gallery or brought to the Cathedral during the week.

Nourish Phoenix Requested Items

As part of our ongoing partnership with Nourish Phoenix, we have been informed that the following items are most in-demand at the moment, and they have asked us to focus on collecting them for the people they serve:

Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, bars of soap, toothpaste, and laundry detergent. They also have a constant demand for feminine hygiene products (pads and tampons).

None of these items can be purchased with SNAP benefits, and can be very expensive for those with limited means. You can either purchase large quantities of the needed items and Nourish will divide them into smaller containers (such as the empty pill bottles we have already been collecting!) or you can purchase travel size versions of the items.

If you have any questions, please email Deacon Myra Kingsley at myra@trinitycathedral.com.

Trinity Quilters Canceled Until July 13th

Fields of Color: June Olney Gallery Exhibit

Nancy Breiman is an oil painter and uses a bold color palette. With her paintings of landscapes, birds, and flowers, Breiman hopes to share joy with the viewer. “Sometimes, the entire landscape envelopes me; other times, I’m caught up in the intricacy of the flower details. Painting both makes my heart sing.” Nancy has won several awards from Camelback Gallery and the Arizona Art Alliance. She is a juried member of the Sonoran Arts League and an active member of the AZ Art Alliance and Arizona Artists Guild.

Sarah Hansegard uses bold linework and large color fields. She creates transparent, watery layers of paint on top of graphite, charcoal, and pastel textures. “Duality has become a recurring theme in my work, as I explore contrasts and how light illuminates through darkness.” Hansegard earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from ASU and began painting abstract works in 2016. She is currently a member of the Sonoran Art League. She has previously exhibited at Mood Room Gallery, {9} Gallery, Portland on the Park, and Shemer Art Center.
