Our Mission: To enhance the quality of life through the Stewardship of our Commonwealth’s urban and community trees.

Happy Spring and welcome to the sixth edition of the Trees Virginia newsletter!

As we dive into the vibrant season of spring, I'm delighted to extend warm wishes to all our board members and supporters. Spring brings with it the promise of renewal and growth, mirroring the mission of our council to enhance the quality of life through the stewardship of our Commonwealth’s urban and community trees. Let's embrace this season as an opportunity to deepen our commitment to preserving and enhancing the beauty and benefits of trees in our communities, and promoting awareness of the roles trees and forests play in the urban environment. Together, we can continue to make a meaningful impact on the forest landscape. In this edition of the newsletter, you will find updates on recent Trees Virginia events, articles on outdoor learning classrooms and new tree quality, and many more updates and reminders!

UVA FOREST PATCHES

The UVA Forest Patches organization has received a 2024 UVA Sustainability Leadership Award recognizing them for their outstanding innovation and dedication to sustainability efforts on UVA Grounds and in the broader community.

This student-led organization has planted forest patches on UVA Grounds in areas that were once maintained by mowing. They sent a representative to the recent Roanoke Tree Care Workshop and will be featured as part of the Virginia Forest Summit Field Tour later this month. UVA Forest Patches have been featured in the blog below.

This document prepared by the Tree Stewards of Arlington and Alexandria presents information relevant to homeowners who have canopy trees but who are also considering the installation of rooftop solar power.
