Traveling Teacher Program

Building Better Recorder Communities
Do you have a group of recorder players that wants to experience private coachings and first-rate lessons with a flesh-and-blood recorder teacher? We want to help you grow your musical skills and enrich your recorder community by helping bring a top-notch recorder teacher to your area! ARS's Traveling Teacher Program is designed to help recorder communities without a local recorder teacher connect with someone to provide instruction on an ongoing basis.
The ARS launched the Traveling Teacher Program in January of 2016. We were thrilled to award the first TTP grant to a group led by Anne Hess that will help bring Lawrence Zukof to the great state of Maine for lessons and ensemble coachings over multiple visits. They have expressed their enthusiasm for Larry's upcoming visits and the ARS will share their experience with you soon. But we want to help your group next! Talk to your fellow recorder players and submit an application so that we can help bring a recorder teacher to your area.
The Traveling Teacher Program subsidizes the travel of professional teachers to participating communities.  Up to $400 in travel reimbursement is available per teacher visit to applicants who guarantee teachers at least 10 hours of teaching per visit at $50 per hour, a rate below the national average.  These 10 hours of teaching could be distributed between private lessons, coachings, master classes, group playing sessions, etc. Local applicant groups must also provide housing, food, and local transportation for the teacher, and must contain three or more American Recorder Society members.
The ARS will subsidize one-year commitments consisting of three to four visits to take place over the course of one fiscal year by the same teacher to the same community. This fiscal year's program will run from September 2016 through August 2017. The deadline to apply for funds for the next fiscal year is July 1st, 2016.
