Thursday, June 15, 2023 - Trapper Keepers

Dear Friends in Christ,

If you are certain generation, and you were lucky enough to have parents who bought you good school supplies, you probably owned a Trapper Keeper. In 1985 I had this exact one pictured above (which apparently is now worth 10x on ebay). It was a personal organizing system, a marker of identity, and a status symbol all wrapped into one.

Fast-forward 30 years later to the one and only time I offer to go buy school supplies for my kids. Standing in Target with "the list," most things taken because I'd waited too long to go, wanting with all my heart to go curl up in the Home section and take a nap. "Is this right? How can you possibly need more colored pencils? I can't find a working pen in the house, but every drawer is stuffed with THOUSANDS of markers and colored pencils."

In all seriousness, school supplies are really important. Many of the kids at All Peoples Church badly need them and the good news is that you don't have to go anywhere near an actual store if you don't want to. You can click here, use a couple keystrokes and then just take a nap right where you currently are. The Outreach Group will do all the shopping for you. Rad!

Thank you for considering. Education is a primary wedge to break the cycle of poverty.

Peace and Blessing,

Seth+

P.S. I look forward to blessing some bikes after the 9:30am service this Sunday!

Summer is here...

and so is the School Supplies Drive!

Every year, All Peoples Church distributes backpacks and school supplies to area children who lack the resources to buy all the supplies that we sometimes take for granted. This year All Peoples is moving up the dates for school supply deliveries. You can help!

There are 3 ways for you to contribute:

1) DROP OFF: Bring supplies in person to the front of Christ Church on June 17th, Noon - 1pmOR leave in the red wagon at church anytime. Click HERE for a list of supplies that are being requested.

2) BUY something off our Target Registry HERE or our Amazon Wish List HERE. It will be delivered directly to the Outreach committee. We will take it from there!

3) DONATE MONEY Have the Outreach committee do your shopping for you! Donate through the Christ Church online giving website HERE or drop a check off in the office.

You can use your existing account to make a one time online donation. But you can also contribute to the school supply fund even if you don't have an online giving account.

The Outreach Committee thanks you for all your support!

Don’t forget to sign up for the summer feasts

which will be handled via email for the summer.

Week 3: Summer Creation Care: Climate Science

Summer Green Team Climate Care: 12 weeks of Questions to Ponder and Act Upon

There is a very strong scientific consensus that climate change is real. While the earth goes through natural warming and cooling cycles, in the past these changes take place over thousands of years. But the current warming is not “natural” given the unprecedented speed of the temperature rise. Human activities are the key drivers. The burning of fossil fuels, deforestation, and harmful farming practices increases CO2 and other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere which harms the earth.

Questions to ponder and act upon:

Where do you see the signs of climate change happening in your community?

How could knowing the basics about climate science help in our advocacy work? Practice explaining the science behind climate change to someone in 2 minutes.
