A big thank you to Nancy and Dick Orcutt who generously donated a trail bench in memory of their son, Douglas Orcutt, who passed away in 2013. The Orcutt family has been active on the trail for many years so Nancy and Dick wanted to honor their son’s memory by giving fellow trail users a place to rest and enjoy the beauty of the area.   Read More

Spend some time on the Little Miami Scenic Trail and you will soon realize that our trail truly is multi-use. The figure shows tracks for three popular uses of the trail. What are these uses? The first and third are easy—footprints are left by walkers or runners and tread marks are left by bicyclists. But what about the second?  Read More

What's it Take to Fix a Fence?

The FLMSP volunteer fence repair crew first picks up equipment at the lumber cache near Corwin for work all along the 50 miles of park trail. Right now Rich Easterly, Ray Jacobson, George Stockham (taking the photo) and supervisor/morale officer Cody are busy fixing trail fences south of Loveland. Be sure to thank them if you see them at work.

A kickoff meeting for a Sentinel program on the trail is scheduled for Wednesday, July 25 starting at 7:00 pm at the Hamilton Township Community Center, 131 US-22/3, Maineville, OH.

What is a Trail Sentinel?  A sentinel rides or walks a section of the trail on a somewhat regular basis looking for safety issues.  Those issues might be something that the volunteer can address on the spot like a cyclist with a disabled bike or a small limb or other obstacle on the trail. Other issues would be referred to others using 911, the trail hotline, or other contacts who would respond. No first-aid other than handing out band-aids. If you'd like to attend or have questions, contact Don Hahn at dhahnj@gmail.com.

Heavy rain in mid-June caused flooding of the trail in the Oregonia area. Several trail and road culverts became blocked and clogged causing debris to wash onto the trail. The trail is open as ODNR has cleared much of the debris, but mud and dirt remain on the trail in some areas. If you’re riding in these areas use extra caution as the trail could be slippery, especially after rain.

ODNR expects to have equipment and crews in the area working to clear these culverts the week of July 23. Warren County will also need to be involved as some of the culverts running under nearby roads are blocked and clogged causing wash over onto the trail in heavy rain conditions.

On July 4th at about 8 am, there were hundreds of people walking, cycling and running on the southern repaved portion of the trail. One woman who was skating commented, 'I absolutely love this trail and it is so nice and smooth. It's the best workout ever and everyone should come and enjoy it.'

Another more daring person was riding his uni-cycle now that he didn't have to be concerned about the bumps and rough surface that was prevalent in the past.
