Traffic Pattern Shift on Royal Palm and Sheridan Avenues

Pilot program begins on Monday, September 16, 2024

Background & Benefits

The 41 Street corridor regularly experiences heavy traffic congestion during weekday afternoon peak hours and major special events. Additionally, daily congestion is exacerbated by factors like increased traffic from drivers detouring around ongoing construction and bottlenecks on nearby major roads.

In an effort to address traffic concerns for residents and visitors, the city will implement traffic pattern changes during afternoon peak hours intended to improve the vehicular experience for drivers.

Pilot Program Update

The pilot program will commence on Monday, September 16 during peak afternoon traffic hours. These changes are intended to ease congestion caused by the influx of vehicles that travel through this area.

Two-way traffic will be maintained on Royal Palm and Sheridan Avenues, with police resources deployed at the intersections of Sheridan Avenue and 41 Street, and Royal Palm Avenue and 41 Street. On-street parking will not be affected.

During the pilot, left turns will be prohibited at:

  • Sheridan Avenue onto 41 Street in the SB and NB directions
  • Royal Palm Ave onto 41 Street in the SB and NB directions
  • Sheridan Avenue onto 40 Street in the NB direction only

Timeline

The pilot program will begin on Monday, September 16, 2024, and will last up to six months. Traffic pattern restrictions will be in effect Monday through Friday between 3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Please know that the city's Transportation & Mobility Department will monitor and collect data prior to, during, and after the pilot to make any necessary adjustments.
