The Maple Police Department is excited to announce, in partnership with the Burlington County Sheriff’s Department, we will be hosting our first ever Senior Citizens Police Academy. This is a great opportunity for our senior population to not only get out and socialize but also to learn some things about the law enforcement community. Some topics that will be covered include K-9 demonstrations, narcotics awareness, consumer fraud, home security and many more. The academy will run from April 25, 2024 through May 30, 2024 from 1pm-3pm and concludes with a graduation ceremony. This is absolutely free to all seniors. See the flyer below for more details.
Thank you to the Burlington County Sheriff’s Department for bringing this to Maple Shade!

During the height of the Covid-19 Pandemic, the law enforcement community continued to work and answer calls for service. Many of those calls exposed officers to the Covid-19 virus. Chief Christopher Fletcher purchased a sanitization cabinet to be utilized for uniform and equipment, post exposure, in an attempt to stop the spread of the virus. While that cabinet has served the agency well, it is no longer needed by the Maple Shade Police Department.
On February 2, 2024 the MSPD donated the sterilization cabinet to the Maple Shade First Aid Squad. With the cabinet weighing several hundred pounds, the transport was not an easy task. Several officers joined Chief Fletcher and with the help of some community volunteers, it was safely delivered and is set up for use at the Maple Shade First Aid Squad. Special thank you to Sunbelt Rentals, Bentley Truck Services and Councilman Nelson Wiest for the assist on this delivery!

The Maple Shade Police Benevolent Association 267 is always happy to support community members. It was a win-win with a donation to Arianna Coffield for a fundraiser for DECA at the Maple Shade High School!
And the winner is... Nathan Sotelo! Nathan is a very determined 4th grader who managed to collect every trading card for the Law Enforcement Trading Card Contest! Way to go Nathan! Enjoy your gift package!
The MSPD SLEO III’s do so much more than protect the students and staff in our school district. These special officers really become a part of the school family.
Officer Pete Perez, who serves Steinhauer School, celebrated Valentine’s Day with the students and enjoys connecting with the students through learning. He loves to engage with students in the classroom and on the playground.

When Principal Reitz reached out to Community Affairs Officer, Corporal Misty Weiss, looking for the best place to donate 350 boxes of cereal, she had the perfect place!
Howard Yocum School’s Kindness Project for the No Place for Hate Program collected 350 boxes of dry cereal, not knowing that the Maple Shade Food Bank was down to their last few boxes at that exact moment. Match made!
Members of the MSPD responded in the largest vehicle the agency owns, loaded it up with the help of some of the tiniest community helpers and delivered it to the Maple Shade Food Bank. Thank you Howard Yocum Friends, for allowing us to be a part of this mission!

If you own a firearm, please be a responsible owner and Lock it Up. Never leave a firearm unsecured. Stolen guns give access to felons and pose a serious threat to our younger population. Between 2017 and 2021 more than 1 million guns were stolen from private citizens.
In an effort to promote firearms safety, free gun locks are currently available at Maple Shade Police Headquarters (while supplies last).

WATER CONSERVATION TIPS
Did you know the average U.S. household uses approximately 400 gallons of water per day or 100 gallons per person per day? Luckily, there are many low-cost and no-cost ways to conserve water. Water conservation is the practice of actively conserving and lowering the water usage for a household.
If you are looking to reduce your water bill each quarter or are just looking for places to reduce spending, a great first step is conserving the amount of water you use. Small changes can make a big difference. Here are a few easy tips to try:
- Turn off the faucet while brushing your teeth.
- Only run the washing machine and dishwasher when you have a full load.
- Check your toilets for leaks once a year. We offer free toilet leak test tablets that are available for residents at the Wastewater Treatment Plant at 432 W Park Avenue and the Municipal Building at 200 Stiles Avenue.

On January 31, 2024, the Maple Shade School District held an educational presentation with Cedar Run Wildlife at the Fox Meadow Clubhouse. The presentation “Raptors and Reptiles” helped the kids learn why they are so well-suited to their habitats and what similarities these groups have despite seeming so different from one another. The presentation was followed up with some pizza and a book hand out to the kids. A big THANK YOU to Maple Shade School District for allowing the Fox Meadow Clubhouse to host this wonderful event!
