MAPLE SHADE IS A FILM READY COMMUNITY!!!

We are delighted to share with you that Maple Shade is a Film Ready Community!

Film Ready New Jersey is a 5-step certification and marketing program that educates municipalities on the basics of motion picture and television production and enables cities and towns to effectively accommodate on location filming and market their communities as filming destinations. The program sets basic standards for attracting filmmaking and positions the state as a top production destination. The “film-ready” designation provides an elevated platform for certified communities to promote themselves as filming destinations and connects film and TV professionals with skilled and knowledgeable liaisons across the state, who can provide local expertise and support to create easier, faster and better access to nearby resources and location information.

Maple Shade’s Business and Economic Development Director has successfully submitted the Township of Maple Shade as Film Ready Community. The Township will now be able to promote itself as a desired filming destination; bringing economic growth and benefits when production companies come to town. The Township has hit the ground running and will be welcoming filming partner, Wildcat Five Nine, LLC with L.A. Film School, during the first weekend of June.

Keep an eye and ear out for a viewing party upon the film’s release!

POLICE DEPARTMENT

On May 2, 2024, Patrolman Marshall and K-9 Sitka were recognized at the Pro Cops Awards Banquet for their integral role in tracking and locating a would-be bank robber in the area of Steinhauer School. First Assistant Prosecutor, Brenda Roman Maneri, was happy to present the officers with their award.

The Police Department was honored to attend the 2024 Memorial Day Event hosted by VFW Post 2445.

Slices for Safety is in full swing! Thanks to our supporters at Maple Shade Crust N Fire, our officers will be handing out coupons for a free slice of pizza to the children in our community. How do they earn one? It’s easy, get caught being a good citizen! Thank you Crust N Fire!

Speaking of being a good citizen, this young man had no idea how many people were watching when he showed up on his bicycle to the Memorial Day Ceremony. He took the time out of his day to come and pay his respects to all fallen military personnel.  Some onlookers noticed how respectful he was as he stood there, as still as could be, to honor those who have given their life for our country.  Well done Barry Chamberlain, III! We noticed and we’ll be reaching out to you.

We would also like to recognize the Maple Shade High School Baseball Team, Coaches, Nikki Blum & Rylee Blum, and "All About the Kidz" for collecting over $5,000 worth of non-perishable items for our Maple Shade Food Bank.  Supplies were running low and the team stepped in, stepped up, and took care of the need with the guidance of Nikki Blum. Great work! We appreciate your generosity.

Low Speed Electric Scooters and Bikes are not exempt from traffic safety laws. As these modes of transportation become increasingly popular, the Maple Shade Police Department wants to make sure you understand the laws governing electric scooters and E-Bikes.  Operators must obey the same traffic laws as pedal cyclists.

They must ride in the same direction as traffic, are advised to wear a helmet and are required to wear one under the age of 17, should not ride on sidewalks, and are required to have a sounding device.  If the motorized bicycle can achieve a speed between 20-28 mph, it is required to be registered with the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission, and the operator must possess a valid license to operate it.

Enforcement actions can range from the issuance of a summons, up to and including, the impoundment of the device.

Sustainable Maple Shade Invites you to Attend their Upcoming Meetings

Sustainable Maple Shade's General Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month in the Maple Shade Library meeting room at 6:00PM.

The June Business Meeting is June 11th at 6:00PM. All are welcome to attend.

Community Garden Update!

Sustainable Maple Shade is still working hard to get the new Community Garden off the ground. We had a few hiccups, and had to switch gears; however, cardboard is being collected, soil and wood chips are being dropped, and garden beds are being built by Maple Shade Boy Scout Troop/Pack 28.

Sustainable Maple Shade will also be installing the two community benches we earned through our NexTrex Recycling program at the garden site. Maple Shade Girl Scout Troop 21033 is making a beautiful welcome sign for the garden. None of this would be possible without the financial support from Woodward & Curran and we are so grateful for their contribution to this initiative.

Adopt-a-Drain Update!

The Clean Communities Adopt-a-Drain program completed its Drain Painting contest. Congratulations to Gianna Briones for creating the winning design. She was honored at Green Fair with a certificate and art set.

Thank you to all of the students as well as art teacher, Jenn Braverman, for making the drains awesome and more visible which will increase awareness for our storm drains and Adopt-a-Drain program.

But that's not all! Clean Communities has also received new software to track and market Adopt-a-Drain in yet another effort to expand the program and help combat stormwater flooding in Maple Shade. If you've adopted a drain already, be on the lookout for an email from Clean Communities. If you'd like to adopt a drain near you, please visit https://nj.adopt-a-drain.org/ to sign up.

Maple Shade Adopts Tree Removal and Replacement Program

In a State effort for net-zero tree loss in our communities, Maple Shade Township has adopted the model tree ordinance as required by the State of New Jersey. You can view the new ordinance on the township's website by clicking HERE.
