Township High School District 113 Board of Education Appoints Dr. Chala Holland as Next Superintendent

Dr. Holland's Three-Year Contract Begins Will Begin a Three-Year Term on July 1, 2024

Highland Park, IL - February 20, 2024 – At the February 20 Regular Action Meeting the Township High School District Board of Education voted unanimously to appoint experienced educator Dr. Chala Holland as Superintendent for a three-year term beginning July 1, 2024. The appointment follows a thorough and comprehensive five-month long search after the announcement of current Superintendent Dr. Bruce Law’s retirement at the end of this school year. 

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Chala Holland to District 113,” said Board President Anne Neumann. “It was clear as we moved through this process, from all the feedback we gathered through surveys and interviews with multiple stakeholder groups, to the discussions we held as a Board, that Dr. Holland emerged as the transformative and visionary leader uniquely qualified to propel District 113 forward. Not only are her credentials outstanding, Dr. Holland’s work demonstrates her tireless and unwavering commitment to ensure that every student, regardless of their background, has the opportunity to excel and succeed in District 113.”    

“Since the beginning of my career in education, I have held Township High School District 113 in high esteem, closely following and admiring its remarkable dedication to student success,” said Dr. Holland. “It is with profound humility and honor that I step into the role of Superintendent within such a distinguished district, known for its unwavering commitment to nurturing the growth, development, and well-being of every student. I am excited to become a member of the communities served by the district and I pledge my utmost dedication to creating learning environments that enable every student to flourish. Dr. Holland currently serves as the Assistant Superintendent Administrative Services - High Schools in Naperville Community Unit School District 203. In this capacity, she advocates for educational reforms that not only enhance growth and achievement outcomes for all students but also to redefine the very nature of learning and teaching in the modern age. 

Prior to D203, Dr. Holland served for six years as Principal of Lake Forest High School, where she championed a culture of inclusivity and academic excellence, leading significant efforts to enrich student experiences and foster a school environment where every learner can thrive. During her four years as Assistant Principal for Instruction at Oak Park and River Forest High School, Dr. Holland spearheaded initiatives to enhance teaching methodologies and student engagement. Dr. Holland began her career at Evanston Township High School, where she spent a decade laying the foundation of her educational philosophy as both a teacher and an administrator, weaving her passion for teaching and learning into the fabric of the institution. 

Dr. Holland earned a B.A. in Secondary Education with a focus on History from Northwestern University. She received her M.A. in Social and Cultural Foundations in Education from DePaul University, and holds an Ed.D. in Urban Educational Leadership from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Dr. Holland enjoys traveling with her husband, visits with family and friends, working out, listening to live music, browsing art exhibits, and watching sports.

Highland Park, IL – Febrero 20 de 2024 – En la reunión regular de acción del 20 de febrero, la Junta de Educación del Distrito Escolar Township High School District votó por unanimidad a favor de nombrar a la experimentada educadora, la Dra. Chala Holland como Superintendente durante un período de tres años a partir del 1º de julio de 2024. Este nombramiento es el resultado de una cuidadosa y exhaustiva búsqueda que duró cinco meses, después del anuncio de la jubilación del superintendente actual, el Dr. Bruce Law, la cual ocurrirá al final de este año escolar.

Chala Holland al Distrito 113,” dijo la Presidente de la Junta Anne Neumann. “Quedó claro, a medida que avanzamos en este proceso, desde todos los comentarios que recopilamos a través de encuestas y entrevistas con múltiples grupos de partes interesadas, hasta las deliberaciones que sostuvimos como Junta, que la Dra. Holland emergió como una transformadora y visionaria líder, excepcionalmente calificado para impulsar al Distrito 113. No sólo sus credenciales son sobresalientes, sino que el trabajo de la Dra. “Desde el inicio de mi carrera en educación, he tenido en alta estima al distrito escolar Township High School District 113, siguiendo de cerca y admirando su notable dedicación al éxito de los estudiantes,” dijo la Dra. La Dra. Holland actualmente es Superintendente Adjunta de Servicios Administrativos de Escuelas Preparatorias en el distrito escolar Naperville Community Unit School District 203. En esta capacidad, ella aboga a favor de reformas educativas que no sólo mejoren el crecimiento y los resultados de rendimiento de todos los estudiantes, sino que también redefinan la naturaleza misma del aprendizaje y de la enseñanza en la era moderna.

Antes del Distrito 203, la Dra. Holland sirvió durante seis años como Directora de la escuela preparatoria Lake Forest High School, donde fue defensora de una cultura de inclusión y excelencia académica, liderando significativos esfuerzos para enriquecer las experiencias de los estudiantes y fomentar un entorno escolar en el que cada estudiante pueda prosperar. Durante sus cuatro años como Subdirectora de Instrucción en las escuelas Oak Park High School y River Forest High School, la Dra. Holland encabezó iniciativas para mejorar las metodologías de enseñanza y la participación de los estudiantes. La Dra. Holland comenzó su carrera en la escuela Evanston Township High School, donde pasó una década asentando las bases de su filosofía educativa tanto como maestra y como administradora, entretejiendo su pasión por la enseñanza y el aprendizaje en la estructura de la institución.

La Dra. Holland obtuvo una Licenciatura en Educación Secundaria con un enfoque en Historia de la Universidad Northwestern. Ella recibió su Maestría en Fundamentos Sociales y Culturales en Educación de la Universidad DePaul, y cuenta con un Doctorado en Liderazgo Educativo Urbano de la Universidad de Illinois en Chicago. A la Dra. Holland le gusta viajar con su esposo, visitar a parientes y amigos, hacer ejercicio, escuchar música en vivo, explorar exhibiciones de arte, y ver deportes.
