Summer Sprinkle Rates

May 15 - Sept 15

Summer sprinkle rates begin on May 15th and end on September 15th. During this time, all residents are receiving a discounted sewer rate. Residents filling pools or watering new construction landscaping do not have to contact the Clerk-Treasurer's office with water meter readings between May 15 - Sept 15. Summer sprinkle rates do not apply to homes with a second meter. Outside watering before or after these dates may result in a larger than average monthly water bill.

Backflow Testing

All sprinkler backflow valves must be tested one time per year per Ordinance 1510. Please notify your irrigation company of this requirement. Contact Public Works at 219.365.4655 for more information.

Keilman & School Street Intersection

NIPSCO is performing their necessary utility relocation work required to allow Milestone Contractors North to begin construction at this intersection soon. There may be periods of road closure as this project unfolds. The Town anticipates completion of this intersection improvement to occur in mid-August.

Town-Wide Paving

Rieth-Riley Construction plans to begin work the first week of May. They will be working from West to East. Storm sewer adjustments, curb replacement, and sidewalk ramps will be done at each location first, with milling and paving to follow. This means there may be concrete work happening on the east side of Town at the same time milling and paving is occurring on the west side. Work is anticipated to be completed by mid-August.

Gates Walking Path

In mid-May, Site Services plans to begin work on Phase One of the Gates Park Improvement Project, which is the completion of the walking path around the park (outlined in red in the picture below). This will connect the west side of the park to the east side of the park. The walking path totals $249,754 and will be funded by the Community Development Block Grant and Park Impact Fees. The walking path is anticipated to be complete in July.

Watermain Replacements

M & J Underground will begin work to replace 5,500 feet of water main pipe in the following residential areas:

  • W 85th Ave (between Magnolia St & Monfort Dr)
  • Olcott Ave (between Homestead Heights Dr & north 300 feet)
  • Olcott Ave (between 96th Ct & W. 97th Ct)
  • Northcote Ave, W 96th Ct and W 97th Ct

This project will begin in May and is estimated to take about 2-3 months. Notification to the residents will be provided in advance of the construction work.

Water Media Filters Replacement

Peerless Midwest started with the removal, cleaning, and replacement of the water media filters at the Monix and Gates Water Treatment Plants. This project will increase water production while maintaining water quality. Completion of this project is anticipated at the end of May/early June.

Town Garage Sale

This year's Town-Wide Garage Sale will be Thurs, May 2nd - Sun, May 5th. The suggested times are open at 8 AM & stay open until at least 3 PM. Please see the list of participating homes at Participating Homes List & the map of participating homes at Participating Homes Map. No worries if you ran out of time to register your garage sale to be added to the map/list; you can still participate in this event. There will be plenty of garage salers out and about.
