Maybury fork truck gives the Red Cross a "lift" after a rare tornado rips through many towns throughout Western MA |

Rare Tornado Pulls Community Together
On Wednesday, June 1 around 5:00 p.m., communities in Western MA experienced a weather event that has never been seen by most of us. The F3 rated tornado ripped through several towns where many of our customers operate their businesses and where their employees live. Maybury has several employees who live in Springfield, Wilbraham, Monson and other hard hit towns. Most of our employees were able to make it to work on Thursday, the day following the tornado, but a few described the commute to work as "surreal" as they observed the many homes, trees, vehicles and businesses that were damaged or destroyed. Some were detoured into Connecticut as they encountered many roads closed due to fallen trees and power lines. Although Maybury and the town of East Longmeadow were spared from severe wind damage, we did lose power for two days, and phone and fax service was not fully restored until late Monday.
Pictured (right) are Kevin Malsbury, Maybury Forklift Service Technician, and his dad with the home made tractor they used during the emergency tornado clean up efforts on Wednesday, June 1. Kevin ventured out moments after the tornado passed through, to assist his home town of Monson by removing fallen trees so that emergency vehicles could pass through. Surely Kevin didn't anticipate using his self-built tractor for this purpose, but it sure came in handy! Incidentally, this resourceful Service Tech built this tractor with some junked powered equipment parts. The hydraulic lift cylinders are from an old battery changer, the hydraulic tank behind the seat is from a stock picker and the overhead guard is from an old lift truck.
Maybury was pleased to be able to deliver a fork truck and 2 hand pallet trucks to the American Red Cross in Springfield where they have been providing water, food, logistic materials to tornado victims.
Certainly you have many stories too. We would love to hear them. Consider sharing them on the Maybury Material Handling Facebook page. |

Sit-Down Counterbalanced Electric Forklifts from Crown

| Crown SC 4500 Counterbalanced Rider |
SC 4500 and FC 4500 Counterbalanced Electric Forklifts
Crown's Rider Counterbalanced family includes two different sit-down designs: a highly maneuverable three-wheel design (SC) ideal for precision load placement in tight spaces; and a higher capacity, attachment-friendly, four-wheel (FC) forklift truck. Let's take a closer look at each of these innovative Class 1 trucks.
Crown SC 4500
For lift truck operators, performance and control are always uppermost in their minds. Crown delivers with its three-wheel SC 4500 Series sit-down counterbalance lift truck. The advantages of the SC 4500 Series are best understood from the operator's perspective, starting with power and maneuverability for the most demanding work in trailers, on docks and all around the warehouse. Crown finishes the job with an intrinsic stability system, precise control, superior visibility and proven reliability at the lowest cost of ownership.
Crown FC 4500
The Crown FC 4500 Series four-wheel, sit-down rider from Crown provides a durable lift truck with ergonomic features. The cab-forward design provides operators with the best all-around visibility for trucks in this class. The FC's low profile and sculpted cowl further enhances forward visibility by allowing operators to see the truck's front tires and corners. Coupled with the forward visibility achieved through the mast design, the FC 4500 Series increases load handling, with capabilities up to 6,000 lbs., while reducing product damage.
Both Sit-Down Models Feature:
- 36-volt electrical system controlled by Crown's state-of-the-art Access 123 Comprehensive System Control. 48-volt power system available on the FC 4500.
- Infinitely adjustable tilt steering wheel column allows better positioning and comfort.
- Chassis configuration designed to provide maximum capacity at elevated heights without compromising right-angle stack.
- Clear view mast and low-profile chassis allow operators to clearly see the forktips, enabling high visibility for improved safety and reduced damage.
- Three performance levels can be selected to match application requirements or operator skill level, and can be tuned to individual requirements.
