TOP 100 IN THE HOUSE

Top 100

Get ready for some big, exiting news! That's right. BIG. EXCITING. NEWS!!! Pest Control Technology just announced their 2018 list of the Top 100 Pest Control Companies in the United States. One guess who made the list? (Hint: You are currently reading their monthly newsletter!)

Spoiler alert: IT'S US! :) Yes, Blue Chip Pest Services made the list of the top 100 pest control companies. In. The. Entire. United. States! BAM! Nearly 30,000 pest control businesses are currently operating in the United States so to be named one of the top 100 is beyond major!

We recognize what a huge and prestigious honor this is & we are very grateful and thankful for everyone who has helped us achieve this accomplishment. From the trained experts that make up our incredible Team Blue Chip to all our customers (like you!) who have trusted our expertise for the past 50+ years to take care of your homes and businesses. We couldn't have done this without all of YOU!

Next month, our owners will travel to Charleston, South Carolina to officially accept this award on behalf of Blue Chip. Stay tuned for pictures! In the meantime, are you interested in knowing the one thing that we think sets us apart from the approximately 29,999 other pest control companies in the United States? It's a simple answer that boils down to just one word. Find out what that word by  clicking here.
JUST LIKE LEMONADE
customer quote

Temperatures in the 90's. Last day of school. Pools opening for the season. BBQ plans coming together. Lemonade stands. Oh yeah -- sweet summertime is here! As I think of summer (and now a nice tall glass of ice cold lemonade -- yum!), one word that comes to mind is refreshing. The word refresh means to invigorate or to welcome and stimulate something that is new or different.

Thanks, Lucy, for writing us to let us know how refreshed you felt by our customer service when we recently helped you out with an ant issue. From your first email to us (by the way, your use of the ant emoji was on-point!) to calls with our customer service reps to a visit from our technician Nate, we love that we were able to introduce you to experiencing pest control in a new and different way -- a "refreshing" way.  We are a family-owned company and treat each other as well as our customers just like we would our own family members with kindness, honesty, respect and consideration. We have built a strong reputation in the community for excellence and we love when that shows through to our customers in refreshing ways.

Now there's only one question left when it comes to refreshing lemonade: yellow lemonade OR pink lemonade? (Total #TeamPinkLemonade here!)

CARPET BEEETLES 101
carpet beetle

We are surrounded by bugs who like to nibble on some of the things we like. For example, we like our homes. Guess what? So do termites! We like our gardens. Guess what? So do leaf-eating beetles! We like our clothes. Guess what? So do clothes moths! But there's one pest who isn't picky and likes everything. And I mean EVERYTHING! Meet the carpet beetle.

Don't let the name trick you. In addition to carpets (and rugs), these little guys love to snack on furniture, your pet's food, silk, fur, clothes, blankets, hair, upholstery, leather, lint, feathers and dead insects & mice. (They prefer organic, animal-based materials but will snack on synthetic materials that may be stained with food, body oil, hair and lint.)

Carpet beetle larvae are about 1/4" in length. They are usually a shade of brown and can look similar to a very furry, very hairy roly poly or small caterpillar. As they mature, they take on more characteristics of a ladybug -- they get smaller (about 1/8" in size) and develop a roundish body covered with irregular patches of white, brown and yellow. It's these patches of "carpet color" that gave the carpet beetle its name. Carpet beetles can take up to 3 years to grow from an egg to an adult. That might not seem like a long time until you learn that it's during this larvae stage that they are the most harmful and do the most damage.

Carpet beetle larvae like dark, secluded areas so some areas where you might find the most damage include areas that you might not notice right away -- like the undersides of rugs, chairs and couches. Closets, drawers, basements are more of their favorite spots. Routine vacuuming removes carpet beetles as well as the lint & hair that attracts them. Proper cleaning of clothes on a regular basis, especially before storing them, not only removes the sweat odors that attract these beetles but also helps kill larvae and eggs that may be present.

Carpet beetles are resilient pests and can be tricky to fully get rid of on your own; however, gaining control of carpet beetle infestations is something we can help out with. Our technicians are trained to find the source of the infestation and how to use the proper materials to rid your house of them. Give us a call at 636-343-7900 if you have any further questions or if we can help solve your issues with carpet beetles.
FENTON FUN: RED NOSE DAY
Red Nose Day 2018

You like us in real life so why not "like" us on social media too? We have all kind of fun on Facebook and would love to have you join our party. We love getting helping out a good cause. And what's better than a cause that also allows you to get silly?

Red Nose Day is all about coming together to help end child poverty -- one red nose at a time! Some of the staff who work in our Fenton office popped on their red noses and were ready to show their support. We posted this collage of our red nose silliness to our Facebook page on Red Nose Day, May 24th. While Red Nose Day is officially over, we're not done supporting this incredible mission.

From now until the end of May, we'll be collecting "likes" and comments on this picture on our Facebook page,  Blue Chip Pest Services.  And for each "like" and comment, we'll happily donate $1 to the Red Nose campaign where all of the money benefits children in some of neediest & poorest communities through projects that keep them safe, healthy, educated and empowered. Thanks for helping us help others!
