TONIGHT! Art Reception

"Red Eft With Sycamores"

Thursday, July 6 | 5PM - 7PM

Brodhead Creek Heritage Center

Free | No registration required

“My images come from impressions of a lifetime spent outdoors – the colors and forms that abound in nature – that inevitably meld with the daydreams in my head, subconscious wanderings, mythology, and folklore. The ties between humans and nature, the odd paths that our minds take when free of everyday modern distractions, are fertile ground and the inspiration for much of my artwork.” - Katherine Rosenberger

Stop by the Brodhead Creek Heritage Center TONIGHT, Thursday, July 6th from 5-7PM for the opening reception of “Nomad in Nature – Art on the Road", incorporating several media including watercolors, color pencils and ink.

Meet the artist, enjoy light refreshments, and puruse a variety of Katherine's intricate originals and prints, on display and for sale during the month of July.

Devils Hole Falls Hike

Devil's Hole Falls - Ray Roper

Sunday, July 16 | 9AM - 11:30AM

State Game Lands 221

Free | $10 suggested donation

Did you know State Game Lands 221 in Cresco contains three beautiful waterfalls?

Devils Hole Falls, Rattlesnake Falls, and Tank Creek Step Falls are the perfect places to be on a hot summer’s day, but they aren’t always easy to find – unless you know where to go.

Join Pocono Heritage Land Trust and guest hike leader Valerie Brosky as we explore Devils Hole Falls, the first of three waterfalls in PHLT’s waterfall hike event series.

The path to Devils Hole Falls is an out-and-back trail, approximately 3 miles. Moderately challenging, multiple wet foot stream crossings, terrain can be rocky and steep. Hiking poles helpful. Appropriate footwear a must.

Well-behaved dogs and children 12 years and older are welcome.

NEW Rail Gap Trail Brochure

Explore Rail Gap Nature Preserve with an official brochure this summer, including a trail map, history, and highlights of the preserve.

This brochure will help guide visitors around the main trails as well as the newer trail network on the west side of the preserve (parking address: 1529 Brislin Road) to discover interesting remnants of the property's past.

Download your copy here. Printed brochures will soon be stocked at the Rail Gap Nature Preserve sign kiosk.

This brochure made possible by a grant from One for Nature.

Last month, PHLT and Sierra Club celebrated National Trails Day by leading an exploration of a new trail connector in Paradise Township with access to the beautiful Cranberry Creek.

It took 10 years, but Pennsylvania's recognition of Cranberry Creek has finally been upgraded to “Exceptional Value.” (By the way, did you know there are two Cranberry Creeks?)

This trail connects all the way from Henryville to Mount Pocono across several preserved lands.

Eager to explore? Learn more in the latest "Preserving the Poconos" article, written by Carol Hillestad with graphic design by Andrea Higgins.

Call for Volunteers: Greet Visitors at the Brodhead Creek Heritage Center

PHLT is looking for volunteers to staff the Brodhead Creek Heritage Center on Saturday mornings throughout the summer, to allow more visitors to enjoy all that the center has to offer. This is a light, easy volunteer opportunity, and is also a great way to meet new people!

A training session and written talking points will be provided. Sign up here for more information.

Volunteer on PHLT Nature Preserves

Invasive plant workdays are led by PHLT Stewardship Manager Matt Schultz, and are a great way to learn hands-on about native species and ecosystem restoration.

Trail Crew workdays are led by an all-volunteer crew that meets monthly on the third Wednesday to maintain trails and spruce up a designated preserve.

All volunteer days run from 9:00AM to 12:00PM unless otherwise indicated.
