GATHERING IN THE SPIRIT’S PRESENCE

Centering Affirmation: Joy in the Joining?

Welcome and Announcements

Led by Pastor Ken

Opening Words

One: Who are we and what are we called to do?

All: We are the sensitive and responsive ones

called to create a world where every person

is radically affirmed and barriers between

people become bridges of inclusion, justice,

and spirituality.

Call to Worship and Singing Our Faith

Led by Peter Johnston

One: With respect and gratitude for the original

custodians of this land, we gather together this day

to affirm in hope and faith, that we can create a

sacred space of welcome for all who live in our

communities.

All: So let us celebrate the richness and diversity of

life.

One: The thought manifests as the word.

All: The word manifests as the deed.

One: The deed develops into habit.

All: And habit hardens into character.

One: So watch the thought and its ways with care.

All: And let it spring from love because then it becomes The Word About Life born out of concern

for all beings. (The Buddha)

Singing Our Faith

~ A Brand New Day

Led by Nathan Servilican

It’s a brand new day full of possibility.

It’s a brand new day full of hope for you and me.

And tomorrow’s here today bring change along the way,

So, let’s live our life and say,

“It’s a brand new day!”

It’s a brand new day full of awe and mystery.

It’s a brand new day to create our history,

As tomorrows fade away, weaving lessons through our

way,

We can live our life and say, “It’s a brand new day!”

Centering Prayer

Shared by Pastor Ken

Bread, Wine, and Invitation to Share

Led by Peter Johnston and Pastor Ken

We create a new world when we eat and drink together at

the Table of Unity. This simple and profound act reminds us

of the deeper aspects of human fellowship. We are

connected to each other, to the gifts of our planet and to the

Spirit of Life and Love from whom all blessings flow. The

sharing of bread and wine has been a universal symbol of

community. May we find strength and grace for the

journeys of our lives. To the table the Spirit bids us come.

Let us pray.

One: Spirit of Life and Love, You have set the places,

You have poured the wine, and there is always

room, You say, for one more.

All: And so we come

One: From the streets and the alleys, we come.

From the deserts and from the hills, we come.

All: From the ravages of poverty and from the places

of privilege, we come.

One: Running, limping, carried, we come.

All: We are bloodied with our wars,

We are wearied with our wounds,

We carry our dead within us,

And we reckon with their ghosts.

One: We hold the seeds of healing,

We dream of a new creation,

We know the things that make for peace,

And we struggle to give them wings.

And yet, to Your table, We come.

Hungering for Your bread, We come.

Thirsting for Your wine, We come:

Singing Your song in every language,

Speaking your name in every tongue,

In conflict and in communion,

In discord and in desire.

All: We come, O God of Wisdom, We come.

(All the bread is gluten-free. All are welcome to come forward by way of the center aisle, dip a piece of bread into the cup, and know the fellowship of Spirit.)

Celebrations

Led by Pastor Ken

This is our time to share the celebrations of our lives:

birthdays, anniversaries, words of kindness and works of

peace and justice.

We celebrate joys, sorrows, and grief as part of our

comprehensive view of life.

This is our time to give voice to goodness!

Special Music for Thinking of You Cards

Shared by Justin Rollefson

In the pew racks are cards with the title “Thinking Of You”. Please use these cards to write a note to someone so they know they are remembered and cared for. Put the card in the offering plate when it comes by and the church office will forward the cards to the person you addressed in the card. This was one of the elements of our time together you lifted up as important for all of us. Thank you!

In response to our celebrations and the deep goodness of life, our offerings for the

celebration of life, in this place and beyond, shall now be

received.

Invitation to Rededicate Ourselves to The More of Life Shared by Peter Johnston

We prepare ourselves for experiencing the act of giving of ourselves and our offerings with the reading of this reflection.

Reflection ~ "The Blue Marble" by Sue Ellen Campbell

Shared by Peter Johnston

Besides being an incredibly beautiful image, the 'Pale Blue

Dot' gives us some perspective on the scale of our world ...

It streaks through space with the galaxy and with the solar

system.

It loops around the sun. It moves through sunlight, around

and around, north to south to north.

It spins, wobbles, and tilts.

Its atmosphere roils and flows in great waves and whirl-

pools.

Hurricanes and tornadoes spin across its surface;

rainstorms, blizzards, and summer breezes form, move,

hesitate, and disappear.

Plants grow green, sometimes red and gold, brown, and

green again;

stalks and leaves materialize from nowhere, then vanish.

Waters slosh back and forth across vast basins, circling in

gyres, splashing against the edges of the land.

Caterpillars wrap themselves in silk and emerge as

butterflies, drink nectar, pollinate flowers, lay eggs, then

die.

Pieces of land slide around the surface, tear, collide, vanish;

new rock rises from deep below, flows like burning water

into the open air.

Ice and snow expand and melt.

Forests burn and grow again.

Cities grow and crumble.

Birds and airplanes fly between continents;

mammals walk or drive hundreds of miles; sea creatures

rise through fathoms, then sink.

Hummingbirds hone their beaks in crabapple trees, both

breathing, oxygen or carbon dioxide in, carbon dioxide or

oxygen out.

This—this wonderful moving kaleidoscope—is the face of

the earth.

Offering and Offertory

Dedication of Our Offerings

Led by Peter Johnston

One: By our smallest actions such as writing cards of care and putting money in the plate we become part of a bigger world. The smallest gift can be an expression of the good spirit of generosity and caring.

All: May we and these gifts be used to build a foundation of inclusion, justice and spirituality. Amen.

Word About Life ~

A child sounds the chime to help us enter into space with the Spirit for the purpose of focusing on the present moment.

Words For Mission

Led by Peter Johnston

One: May the God who dances in creation, who

embraces us with human love, who shakes our

lives like thunder, bless us, empower us, limit us,

and drive us out with power to fill the world with

her justice. These are the times!

All: We are the people!

One: All of Creation is blessed.

All: May we love all and serve all.

One: May God be with you.

All: And also with you.

One: Amen.

All: Amen.
