WELCOME TO SHADOW ROCK UCC!

Prelude ~

Shared by Travis Meyers

WELCOME to our journey to July Sabbath. Since the

founding of our congregation we have taken the

month of July to renew and refresh our community

and our spirits. Join us as we prepare for our sabbath

time and make us your chosen spiritual family.

GATHERING IN THE SPIRIT’S PRESENCE

Centering Affirmation: It is my responsibility to help craft a Sunday morning experience that is worth my time and energy.

Welcome and Announcements

Led by Pastor Ken

Opening Words

Led by Pastor Ken

One: Who are we and what are we called to do?

All: We are the sensitive and responsive ones called

to create a world where every person is radically

affirmed and barriers between people become

bridges of inclusion, justice, and spirituality.

Call to Worship

Led by Linda Johnston

One: Let the light fall bright and gentle on the

earth.

Let the cactus wrens sing their morning song.

And let God's people say...

All: Let it be so with us.

One: Let the tools be stored away

as we move toward July Sabbath.

Let the work be over and done.

And let God's people say...

All: Let it be so with us.

One: Let the sun rise up, the rain fall down, and

the flowers and vegetables grow.

All: Let our hearts be glad and minds be calm.

One: And let God's people say...

All: Let it be so with us.

Singing Our Faith

~ There Is Room For All

There is room for all, in the shadow of God’s wing.

There is room for all, sheltered in God’s love.

And I rejoice and sing,

“My refuge and my rock, in whom I trust!”

There is room for all.

There is room for all.

peace and justice.

Celebration Song

Celebrate your heart and your spirit.

Celebrate your life while you live it.

Even when it’s hard to do,

celebrate the best of you!

Celebrate your dreams and your visions.

Celebrate the love you’ve been given.

Cherish all that you’ve been through.

Celebrate the best of you!

Invitation to Give ~ What If Water Is God?

Shared by Linda Johnston

In grateful response to Jackson's baptism I am sharing a poem about water.

What if water is God?

Then that would mean God is both in us and all around us.

That God is both above and below us.

Why a woman’s water breaks when we are born and why some religions observe the ritual of baptism.

But if water was God, that would mean that God has no gender.

That God takes the shape of whatever container God appears in, which would explain why we have so many different belief systems, which begs the question, what is the spiritual significance of poisoning the water in Flint, Michigan?

Or the oil burning in the Gulf of Mexico?

Or the large islands of garbage floating in the Pacific Ocean?

If God was water, would that not mean that every natural place is holy?

That every thunderstorm was a church without walls?

That when the rain falls, it is an act of God’s death that is giving life.

And when it evaporates again it is as a day of resurrection?

And life itself was just a test of learning how to be and flow like water.

How to give life to other people?

And how to refresh their spirits and quench their thirsts with your presence.

Our gifts are a way we can refresh the thirsty world.

Offerings and Offertory ~

Dedication of Our Offerings

Led by Linda Johnston

This is something we do: cash from wallets, checks in tiny envelopes, pink cards for electronic giving, baskets, and ushers. Is this a kind of prayer? We trust that our gifts move out into the world, furthering our values of inclusion, justice and spirituality.

Word About Life ~

Shared by Pastor Ken

A child sounds the chime to help us enter into space with the Spirit for the purpose of focusing on the present moment.

Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.  Matthew 6
