To Our Good Mental Health

June 2024

Lori Shibinette, RN, NHA, MBA

The West Central Board of Directors has named a new President and CEO. Lori Shibinette, RN, NHA, MBA will join the organization on August 19th.

Lori brings extensive leadership experience to her role at West Central, including leadership of several large nursing homes, serving as CEO of NH Hospital, and most recently, shepherding our State through the Covid-19 pandemic as the Commissioner of the Department of Health and Human Services. In all, Lori has led mission-driven organizations for thirty years. Board Chair, Will Torrey stated, “in the interview process, her desire to apply her experience and approach to our organization to further our mission” was clear.

From Lori’s perspective, "West Central Behavioral Health has a long history of providing comprehensive mental health and substance use treatment within their communities. I am honored to be joining such a team that has built a legacy caring and advocating for the mental health community in New Hampshire."

Please join us in welcoming Lori to the Upper Valley when the opportunity arises later this summer.

Together Let's Meet our NH Gives Fundraising

Goal of $5,000!

Double your impact! An anonymous donor will match the first $1,000 in donations. Help us to improve Arbor View, home to 16 residents who receive mental health services from West Central. Residents plan to build two raised garden beds for fresh veggies and flowers and worn living room furniture will be replaced. Together we can improve the living conditions of our neighbors. Use the link below to double your gift.

NH Gives starts at 5 PM on Tuesday, June 11, and ends at 5 PM on June 12.

As we move into the summer months you may be spending more time with young children...

At West Central, counselors trained in Child Parent Psychotherapy work with the youngest children and their caregivers. This evidenced-based method of working with parents and caregivers is effective and accessible. See below for how young children show us that they need help.

An Ongoing Partnership

We are grateful to The Couch Foundation for their ongoing support of West Central's Early Childhood Therapy and Family Outpatient Services.

The Matthew S. T. Winer Award for Humanism and Excellence in Community Psychiatry

Dr. Mason Stillman is the recipient of this year's Matthew Winer Award which is given annually to a resident in psychiatry who best exemplifies the qualities of empathy, humanism, and clinical excellence in the practice of community psychiatry for which Matthew Winer was known.

This past year, Dr. Stillman completed a full-year rotation where he showed exceptional compassion for his clients at West Central and Grafton County Jail, sharing in their struggles as he worked to treat them through direct care.

As an elective, in 2022, Mason was exposed to the Assistive Community Treatment model of care. As a result, he shared his research with West Central team members suggesting how we could best apply our limited resources.

Congratulations Dr. Stillman, we are looking forward to your future accomplishments!
