Justin Jones Appointed to Juneau Commission on Aging and SAIL Board of Directors

Congratulations to Justin Jones who was recently appointed by the City & Borough of Juneau Assembly to fill a vacancy on the Juneau Commission on Aging (JCOA) and selected to serve on the Southeast Alaska Independent Living (SAIL) Board of Directors. Both appointments are two-year terms. JCOA was established in 1985 and evolved from the Senior Citizen Advisory Committee. The commission consists of nine members that advise the Assembly on areas of concern for seniors in Juneau and promote awareness of Juneau’s senior population and their quality of life. SAIL empowers elders and people with physical and mental disabilities by providing services and information to support them in making choices that will positively affect their independence and productivity. "I feel very honored to represent our Elders," said Justin. "They are such an important part of our community and their voices and ideas need to be of the utmost importance. I want our Elders to feel valued and respected in Juneau." Justin serves as Tlingit & Haida’s Wellness Coordinator and is responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing wellness and education programs within the Tribal Family Youth Services department focusing on domestic violence, elders, youth and suicide prevention. He is a community-driven health professional with more than seven years of experience working with Alaska Native and Native American families. Justin holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Physics from Whitworth University and Master of Science degree in Kinesiology with a specialization in Biomechanics from Penn State University. He is the son of Laird and Francine Eddy Jones, his Tlingit name is X’at Kweix and he is Eagle/Wolf of the Yanyeidi clan of the Taku Tlingit people.

THRHA Board of Commissioners Vacancy Tlingit Haida Regional Housing Authority (THRHA) is seeking individuals who want to be part of a fast paced, dynamic organization to fill a vacancy on the Board of Commissioners. Candidates are currently being sought from all Tlingit & Haida communities that have designated THRHA as its Tribally Designated Housing Entity under the Native American Housing Assistance and Self Determination Act (NAHASDA) or those that have THRHA Housing Inventory in their community. Robust candidates who are committed to housing services and development, have strong communication skills, experience and expertise in analyzing financial reports, regular access to internet in order to be responsive to Board action and meetings are encouraged to apply. Must be able to attend bi-monthly week day board meetings and be available via telephone/email when necessary. Must be willing and able to travel via small planes or commercial airlines or ferries.
