Title IX: Bring Out the Artillery

Biden's changes to Title IX dropped, and the response was immediate. People and organizations immediately recognized the threat to our children from changing the language from "women" to have it apply to those who "identify as women."

This wording change leaves students, parents, and teachers vulnerable to attack and persecution. In a previous mailing, Truth in Education brought the story of the middle-school students who defaulted rather than compete against a male pretending to be a female during the shot-put event at their meet on April 18, 2024. These girls wound up being punished by their school. Following their action, the girls were removed from the next scheduled track and field meet on April 27, 2024. Read the story HERE. Under the new Title IX changes, these same girls could be charged for sexual harassment and have civil and/or criminal charges brought against them.

BREAKING NEWS NOW

According to WSBTV (May 22, 2024):

At least five Georgia school districts are accused of violating Title IX and one attorney has confirmed plans to file federal lawsuits against the districts on behalf of students.

Attorney Mel Hewitt is underscoring allegations of Title IX violations in six different cases of teacher-on-student and student-on-student assaults in Georgia public schools -- some of which occurred in metro Atlanta.

At a news conference, Hewitt discussed cases involving Carroll, DeKalb, Douglas, Gwinnett and Washington school districts.

Title IX is a federal civil rights law that prohibits discrimination, including sexual abuse, assault and coercion in educational institutions that receive federal funding.

But people are fighting back!

At least four separate lawsuits against Title IX have been filed in federal court, including those filed by the following states: Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, Idaho, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana, and Texas, and more states are joining in every day. Individual organizations, including Parents Defending Education, a partner group with Truth in Education, similarly joined in the lawsuits. Click HERE to see the details.

And those middle-school girls? They themselves have filed a lawsuit against their board of education.

While all this is laudable, it is frustrating that these young teen girls, rather than having to think about their education, are having to live in fear as to what their future will be, not only in the area of school sports, but in their school career as a whole.
