Time to Be Counted-In Many Ways
 
It's Census time and primary election time! Many cities and counties are going to great lengths to promote the Census. Arlington County, VA, which has created an extensive outreach process, is even sponsoring a " Census Palooza" next week (Mar 7). Communities are also making it easier to vote in elections. FairVote has a variety of tools and stories for encouraging greater turnout.

San Antonio Uses Civic Engagement to Develop Climate Action Plan
After 18 months of expert stakeholder collaboration and community engagement, the City of San Antonio has released its climate action plan, SA Climate Ready: A Pathway for Climate Action & Adaption. As a seven-time All-America City, the City of San Antonio is familiar with addressing local concerns with robust civic engagement efforts, the development of its climate action plan was no different.  Learn more.
 
The League Welcomes Two New Members to 
Board of Directors
A mayor and a chief resiliency officer were recently elected to the League's board of directors. John Dailey, Mayor of Tallahassee, FL and Nicole Ferrini, Chief Resiliency Officer for El Paso, TX  were each elected to a three-year term. The National Civic League board of directors is made up of 22 civic leaders from around the U.S. and meets three times each year to help lead the 125-year-old organization. Read more. 
Solar Solutions Help Burlington, VT, Go 100% Renewable
In 2015, the Solsmart designee City of Burlington, Vermont became one of the first cities in the United States powered by 100% renewable energy. The city's 42,000 residents get their power from Burlington Electric using a combination of sources like biomass, wind, hydroelectric and solar. The main source of energy is hydropower thanks to the fact that the city is situated near the mouth of the Winooski River. Read more.
All-America Cities Shine in Child Opportunity Index
The recently released Child Opportunity Index provides a snapshot of metro-area performance on providing supports and opportunities for children. All but one of the top five cities and six of the seven cities scoring well from the southern tier of the country are All-America Cities. 
Searching for 
Common Ground
The country is polarized, but it is still possible to have meaningful conversations that lead to common ground on challenging issues. At least, that's the idea behind Hidden Common Ground 2020, an initiative that USA Today & a group of nonprofit organizations have launched to coincide with this election year. 

Webinar: Creating Inclusive, Age-Friendly Communities
Join us on March 25th as we hear from AARP and the City of West Hollywood about efforts they are taking to make communities more age-friendly places. Participants will learn about Colorado's designation as an AARP Age-Friendly Community and West Hollywood will discuss their Aging in Place strategic plan and the importance of  evaluation.  Register.
