Worship with Tigard UMC In-Person or Online
Sunday, July 24 at 10 a.m.
|
|
This Sunday, it's all about the prayer that Jesus taught his followers to pray, a prayer that Christians have prayed for centuries...The Lord's Prayer. We will hear the version in Luke's gospel, but as anyone knows who has worshiped at a church different than their own, there are many versions of The Lord's Prayer. Pastor Jeremy will break it down and will help us reclaim the edginess of a prayer that is always in danger of becoming rote. Pastor Jeremy's message is called "When You Pray, Say..." Ryan Emerson will read scripture and our guest accompanist will be Sandy Ralston's friend Marcia Fischer. We hope you you can join us for a meaningful time of worship together -- in person or online!

Masks are still required in worship.
For those who wish to continue worshiping with us online, we livestream worship, as always, via our website or YouTube livestream.

School Supplies Drive
Help kids get the school supplies they need this fall! We are raising funds to purchase school supplies to share with children in our neighborhood. A donation of $25-$50 will buy supplies for one student depending on their grade level. A team from TUMC will purchase the supplies from the list provided by our local schools. We will share the school supplies with families at the neighborhood picnic we are hosting on Sunday afternoon, August 28. If you have questions, please contact Carolyn Forbes (cfourforbes@gmail.com) or call the church office (503-639-3181).

Holy Envy: Finding God in the Faith of Others
By Barbara Brown Taylor
In Holy Envy, Barbara Brown Taylor contemplates the myriad ways other people and traditions encounter the Transcendent, both by digging deeper into those traditions herself and by seeing them through her students’ eyes as she sets off with them on field trips to monasteries, temples, and mosques.
Troubled and inspired by what she learns, Taylor returns to her own tradition for guidance, finding new meaning in old teachings that have too often been used to exclude religious strangers instead of embracing the divine challenges they present. Re-imagining some central stories from the religion she knows best, she takes heart in how often God chooses outsiders to teach insiders how out-of-bounds God really is.
