"We are very proud of our Tifton City Fire Department and our team of highly professional firefighters. Bringing our Westside Fire Station online helps us to even better serve our city and its residents," says Mayor Julie B. Smith.
The station, which includes two trucks, primarily serves the area west of Interstate 75 and is one of three fire stations in the city. It was built with SPLOST III funds at a cost of $474,885. Tucker Brothers Construction was the contractor.

On July 1, Tift County created its own fire department,
b
reaking away from the joint city-county departmen
t. An independent
ISO survey
was conducted last week for the city fire department to rate its fire protection, and City Fire Chief
Michael Coleman
is
confident
that
Tifton will improve
in its
classification
. Better ISO ratings could affect
insurance rates
for business and industry.
"I am truly humbled to be a part of this very fine team who are consummate and dedicated professionals of the highest order," Coleman said.
