Pride Ceremony Promotes Inclusivity

Hollister High School's commissioners of culture and climate on Wednesday hosted the annual Pride ceremony in the main campus quad at lunch. As it does each year, the San Benito High School District Board of Trustees on Tuesday adopted a resolution recognizing June as LGBTQ Pride month, affirming that the District is committed to fostering a safe, respectful, and inclusive community culture. Principal Kevin Medeiros, Superintendent Dr. Shawn Tennenbaum and student Ruby Rivas were among the speakers at Wednesday's ceremony, which included signs identifying people who have made an impact on the LGBTQ+ community. Next year's commissioners of culture and climate, Soledad Robles and Miley Silva, spoke, as did Jose Patino and Summer Bundros, who shared about the history of advocacy of LGBTQ+ rights and noted how the Pride flag represents and celebrates inclusion. The flag was then raised, below the American flag, in the campus quad.
