Be Encouraged, Jesus Walks Beside you

Key Verse to Read and Treasure

Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem. They were talking with each other about everything that had happened. As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them, but they were kept from recognizing him. –Luke 24:13-16, NIV

Have you heard the phrase “God comes alongside us” before? The phrase God comes alongside us reflects the idea that God is present with us, supporting us and assisting us in our lives. It emphasizes the belief that God is not distant or indifferent but actively involved in our well-being. This concept aligns with various biblical passages that highlight God’s care, guidance, and interventions in human affairs.

In Numbers Moses told the Israelites to remember who they were and who their God was. Moses’ question is as relevant and applicable today as it was back then. Moses said, “what other nation has a god as near to them as our God is to us when we call upon him?” (Deuteronomy 4:7).

We know that we can walk with God. Jesus was the quintessential example of a man who walked with God. Jesus walked with God so closely that he was always in the Spirit. How comforting and reassuring to learn that God also walks with us.

In the Bible we read that God walked with those such as Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Jacob, Elisha and many others. Part of our strong, convincing witness about God to others is that he walks with us. That means God is never not walking with us. He is walking beside us as we go down the street and as we cross the intersections of life. He is walking beside us as we shop, go down the corridors at school, work, in the hospital or in the courthouse. God is walking beside us as we walk through troubles, storms, sickness, the complexities of life, and yes even through our failures and sin. There is not one moment God is not walking with us.

After his resurrection Jesus walked down the Emmaus Road with two disciples who did not recognize him until he had parted from them. After he left, then their eyes were opened, then their spirits were aware they had been in the Savior’s presence and he in theirs. How blessed we are that we don’t have to wait to sense Jesus walking with us. We can know and sense it today, this very moment. We can see his footprints everywhere we go. Praise Jesus we are not alone after all.

Jesus thank you for walking with me everywhere, every day of my life. You’ll walk with me every day down here and when I get to heaven.

Be encouraged today knowing Jesus is walking beside you everywhere you go.
