John W. Newcomer, Thriving Mind President and CEO, gave the Plenary Talk at the University of Central Florida’s College of Medicine’s Focused Inquiry & Research Experience (FIRE) 14th Annual Conference on Feb. 17.

Lisa LeSueur, pastor at Coral Gables Congregational Church and Program Coordinator for NAMI Miami’s Suicide Prevention Program, to discuss a life and death epidemic and often taboo topic: suicide.

Black Americans and Mental Health


Mental health conditions occur in Black and African American people in America at about the same or less frequency than in White Americans. However, the historical Black and African American experience in America has and continues to be characterized by trauma and violence more often than for their White counterparts and impacts emotional and mental health of both youth and adults.
