Living Room Grand Opening:

Save the Date


New Horizons Community Mental Health Center, Inc. has launched a “Living Room” program to serve the mental health needs of people in Miami-Dade County which coincides with the beginning of Mental Health Awareness Month.


This new model will be the first of its kind in South Florida. The 50-year-old agency is excited to offer this new line of service. 


New Horizons will hold an open house from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. May 1st at 1469 NW 36th Street, Miami, FL 33142. The Ribbon Cutting will take place promptly at 10:30 a.m.

Staff Attend Threat Management Conference In Palm Beach Co.


Stephanie Pastorino, MHS, CBHCM ,Threat Management Section Care Coordinator and Yisel Morell, LMHC, Care Coordination Manager, attended the Second Annual Palm Beach County Threat Management Conference. This conference identifies best practices of developing and maintaining threat management teams across the nation.

Child Abuse Prevention Month


Nikki Batista, Thriving Mind's Children's System of Care Specialist, and Michelle Luchau, Thriving Mind's Adult System of Care Specialist, participated in Citrus’ Community Resource Fair for Child Abuse Prevention Month at the Circle of Brotherhood on April 20.

John W.Newcomer, M.D., Thriving Mind President and CEO, recently wrote a book chapter on medications used to treat mental illness.

A Thriving Mind research assistant, Jared Lipsey, was a co-author on a paper about substance use treatment. Mr. Lipsey was advised by Steven Proctor, Ph.D., Thriving Mind's Senior Program Director for Health Outcomes, who is first author on the paper. At the time, Mr. Lipsey was an undergraduate at Brown University majoring in neuroscience. He is now a Licensing Associate at Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Licensing Office.

Peer Services Conducts Training


Thriving Mind's Peer Services Team, Esther Serrano and Derek Moore, conducted a training for Network Service Provider Douglas Gardens (both the Miami Beach and North Miami site) on “Implementing a Recovery Oriented System of Care”. Present in the training were peers, case managers, therapists and the clinical director.
