Banner presentation. Find out what Banner has planned for the greenspace bordering Lester. As an integral aspect of the design, Banner will honor the history of Jefferson Park by featuring historic photos, a ramada reminiscent of the WWII Quonset huts and the ROTC Polo Field and Polo Team. Surrounding neighborhoods are invited!

Building a resilient neighborhood in case of electric outages
WORKSHOP TO BE SCHEDULED
- Three hour workshop. All invited!!
Promoting heat-related preparedness through community cohesion
Our most likely emergencies are disruption of electrical power or water. Being prepared for these situations will make the neighborhood stronger for emergencies and smaller events.
The organization Building Resilient Neighborhoods (sponsored by Physicians for Social Responsibility) offers a 3-hour workshop promoting heat-related preparedness through community cohesion. The workshop includes:
1. Learn about managing heat illness.
2. Assess vulnerabilities and needs in heat-related emergencies.
3. Decide on actions for your neighborhood to take to be ready for a heat emergency without electricity.
4. Prepare for future challenges.
The workshop is free. It is like a free insurance policy which could help us survive an emergency.

but don't lose your property tax break

Windows -
If your windows must be replaced they should match the original windows as closely as possible. This would include size, operation, light pattern (grids), etc. and, where possible, material. This is not to say that you could not do a new window with multi-pane glass or even repair an existing window and install thicker glass or a dual pane piece of glass. In terms of the grids, there are 2 types of grids -TDL or true divided light, and SDL or simulated divided light. If a replacement window could not be TDL, then a SDL with both internal (in between the dual pane glass pieces) and external grids/muntins should be used as it gives a better appearance of the historic window. Windows should also be maintained in their original opening.
If you think your home is over 50 years old and might qualify, look at the nomination list of the Jefferson Park contributing properties.

NOTE: If you have double hung windows (slide ups), their replacement is not as expensive as the grid pattern necessary in the steel sash casement windows as pictured above.

To enroll a contributing property and receive the tax break, do the following:
- Download an enrollment form at: azstateparks.com/SHPO/propertytax.html.
- Get your contributing property's information referenced in your Historic District's nomination form.
- Take 2 pictures of your house: one showing the front, and one showing both the front and a side. example (185 KB).
- Have all property owners sign the completed form.
- Turn in your completed enrollment form & photos by Dec. 31, 2011 to:

| The International School, Sabaku T-shirts, Old Ft Lowell Live at Home (OFFLAH) volunteers, and seventeen Jefferson Park Volunteers worked from 6:30 am to noon setting up, conducting, and taking down the craft event set outside the IST gymnasium. It was a hectic and fun filled morning. Crafters from SAMOS and Campbell/Grant neighborhood also participated. |

Grant Road Phase 2 completed
|
On October 30, Tucson Department of Transportation, the RTA, the City of Tucson and others gathered to celebrate the completion of Phase 2 of the Grant Road expansion project.
The next phase, 3/4, now moves east beginning near Alvernon and extends to Swan. Phases 5/6 will begin possibly in 2026 and open the section from Santa Rita to Tucson Blvd.
Jefferson Park and the Grant Road Coalition will now focus on the proposed Linear Park from Park to Santa Rita.
We celebrate the additional trees in the basin that were planted at our request and the attention to beeper noise and light pollution which is being addressed by TDOT. As the first section of the Grant Road Improvement Project which cut through a primarily residential area there were some unique matters which needed addressing.
We celebrate the city's agreement to hire the consultant who will redistrict Jefferson Park's historic boundaries to compensate for the contributing properties that were demolished by the roadway.

Greening and Cleaning in Jefferson Park

We need your help, every 3rd Saturday of the month
Jefferson Park volunteers walk the parklet at the intersection of Edison/Campbell. They continue south up the Campbell access road...plogging along.
No RSVP needed, just show up about 8am. BYOB-bring your own bag...or we supply.
If you do pick-up during the week, contact Joanne Osuna at cricket16@cox.net and your time can count. We report our hours to Tucson Clean and Beautiful as part of the Adopt a Park program.
...And our little parklet at Edison and Campbell is quite lovely.
