Three Easy Steps to Get into the Halloween Spirit
Three Easy Steps to Get into the Halloween Spirit
For most of us, Halloween is a thrilling time to engage in the season's spooky activities-donning costumes, watching horror films and trick or treating.  To get into the Halloween spirit, follow the three steps below for a fantastical Halloween experience.

Step 1: Movies

Who doesn't love a Halloween movie marathon?  A tradition for many, there's nothing that will get you in the Halloween spirit faster than watching horror films.  With so many to choose from, it can be a little daunting trying to find the right ones to watch.  One way to avoid this is by sticking with the classics of the genre or just going with your favorite Halloween movie.  If you don't have a favorite, that's alright. You can find one. A popular flick is Halloween (1978).  Directed by John Carpenter Halloween is playing at The Luna Theater on Sunday, October 29th.  If you're not into the classics, you can always go for something a bit more surprising by attending movie night events where the movies are chosen for you. Here are some suggestions.  On Saturday, October 28th, it's the Halloween Monster Movie Marathon also at The Luna Theater and the Halloween Movie & Drop-in Craft at the Pollard Memorial Library.  Either one will put you in the Halloween spirit in no time.

Step 2: Costumes

The next step is to find yourself a good costume to match the spooky vibe you're in.  The movies you've watched can help you find a costume, but also consider what you want your costume to portray.  Do you want it to look frightful, funny, angry or cute?  Once you've considered the concept, think about the delivery.  How creative are you going to get with your concept?  These are all important factors to help you find the right costume.  Once you've got your costume, it's time to show it off.  Community events such as the Monster Bash and Halloween Stroll on Saturday, October 28th and the 6th Annual Hallows Eve 5K Fun Run and Walk on Sunday, October 29th are perfect opportunities to show off your creations.

Step 3: Parties and Events

Finally, getting into the Halloween spirit involves having fun with friends and family.  Now that you've got your costume and you've watched your movies, you're ready to go out and experience others' costumes and company at Halloween events.  It's time to start planning to attend that Halloween event that everyone is excited about.  Community events such as Navigation Brewing Co.’s Halloween Party and Mill No. 5's The Oddity Market Place on Saturday, October 28th and the Murder at the Nesmith House on Friday and Saturday, October 27th and 28th can help you get into those eerie vibes.  After attending a Halloween party, after watching your movie marathon and after finding a great costume, you're officially ready for Halloween day!
