(Chicago, IL) July 12, 2023 Boaters from all over Chicago will set sail this weekend July 14th - July 16th for the 10th Annual Black Boat Scene. Over a thousand water enthusiasts from Chicago, Houston, LA, New York, Atlanta and D.C. will hit Chicago’s lakefront for a maritime experience unlike any other.
For Luxury Lakefront Charters, one of the signature organizations who operates five vessels, the event has become the quintessential boat party. “We are really excited to be apart of the festivities taking place this weekend. There will be a lot of networking, tons of mingling and plenty of cruising on Lake Michigan on Sunday," says Dorian Rushing with Luxury Lakefront Charters.
Trevonte Battle, one of the captains with Luxury Lakefront Charters, is all too anxious to set sail. “To be honest, it’s just nice seeing our culture coming together yachting peacefully and enjoying one another.” For this Chicago native who grew up in Humboldt Park, he never imagined he’d be navigating these waters after starting out as a deckhand for Shoreline boats back in 2007.
“When I applied for the job back then, I was only looking for a part time job. But as time went by and I started learning more and more about the vessels, I decided that I wanted to become a captain and get my license, ” says Trevonte. After earning 365 hours on the water, he is a United States Coast Guard Merchant Mariner 100 Masters License.
When Trevonte's not sailing, you can catch him working with other young people interested in learning about the boats and water safety.
