SUSAN HATEM

Two books I’ve listened to recently about war survivors have given me not only mini history lessons but hope. I highly recommend We Were The Lucky Ones , the debut novel of Georgia Hunter, and A Long Petal of the Sea by National Book Award winner and author of more than 20 books, Isabel Allende. Both are epic family sagas prompted by the authors’ research into their own family stories. Despite heartbreaking separations, the protagonists never gave up hope of seeing loved ones and loved places again.
