Mr. Crawford's 2nd, 3rd, and 4th-grade music classes will participate in "Sousa's March Mania" hosted by The President's Own Marine Band. 32 of the best and most popular "marches" in band literature have been setup in an elimination bracket similar to what college basketball fans are obsessing about right now. Each music class in the month of March will read some information about and listen to that day's matchups, and vote for which "march" should continue in the competition, and Mr. Crawford then submits the vote results to the website. Marches can advance from the first round to "Sousa's Sixteen", to "The Enlisted Eight", to "The Fidelis Four", all the way to the championship on March 28th. Our March Mania experience will lead us to discussion and practical application of concepts we've studied in music class: rhythm, melody, dynamics, texture, instrumentation, consonance/dissonance, harmony, and form. What a fun way to learn about music! |
