Congratulations To The

Sterling Post Office

Our Business Of The Week

306 Poplar St.………. ………………..…               …..S970-580-7142

As the Business of the Week, the Chamber is honoring the Sterling Post Office and (holding sign) Casey Rinaldo and Eric Cane (second row left to right) Joseph Melton, Jasen Brunette, Mike Bergmeier, Devin Taylor, (third row) Lauren Putney, Lisa Montgomery. Kristen Osborn, Tamara Havorka, Roxanne Hutt and (fourth row left to right) and Brittany Fetcher, Paula Schmitt, Trisha Serrato, Charles Amaral and Kevin Fehringer.

....The Sterling Post Office began here back in the 1930’s when the building was constructed. The many floors of the building were meant to host numerous federal entities such as the IRS, USDA, United States Postal Inspection Service, Civil Service office, and even a federal courthouse.

....At this time, the United States Postal Service (USPS) owns the entire building at 306 Poplar St.

including the Sterling Post Office. USPS as a whole was started to provide mail processing and delivery services to individuals and business’s all across America.

....At one point the Sterling Post Office held letter and flat processing machines that sorted mail for the City of Sterling itself and also surrounding towns in the 807 corner of the state by mail handlers.

In 2009 USPS took those machines away and localized mail processing at the Denver P and DC for the whole state.

....At that time the Sterling Post Office just became a delivery and retail station. The Sterling Post Office has 8 city delivery routes and 5 rural delivery routes along with over 2,000 post office boxes that they supply mail and packages to and from on a daily basis 6 days a week all year round. Each route can hold anywhere from 400 to over 900 deliveries, daily.

....In a normal delivery week, not in peak season- the 13 routes and PO Boxes can deliver over 79,000 letters, 3,700 flats, and 7,100 parcels give and take on a weekly basis. During peak season between the beginning of November and the beginning of January those volumes will quadruple if not multiply even more. They operate on what’s called a 24 hour clock so they have trucks of mail arriving and employee’s processing mail at all hours of the day, even holidays. They have a hard working and dedicated staff of over 30 employees total and are always looking to hire more dedicated, proud and hard working individuals.I....II;;;

....In April of 2021, Postmaster Lauren Putney took over the Sterling Post Office as Officer-in-Charge. In 2010 carrier Lisa Montgomery, who was then the Officer-in-Charge registered the Sterling Post Office as a historical location with the state of Colorado w3o maintain the integrity and history of the old building that they inhabit, so that it will hopefully last in the community for many years to come.

....Sterling Post Office offers mailing and shipping services, stamps and postage of all kinds. They also offer EDDM (Every Door Direct Mailing) for businesses of all sizes, Bulk Mailing rates for people wanting to mail more than 200 pieces or more, delivery confirmation services, the sale of money orders and execution of passport applications. The Atwood and Peetz USPS locations are overseen out of the Sterling Post Office.

.... questions, comments or concerns, please contact them at 306 Poplar Street, Sterling, CO, 970-522- 4307 or visit their website at http://usps.com. Their hours are 8am-5pm Monday - Friday and 9am-1pm Saturday, and holiday hours will be posted.

....Join Us In Congratulations
