Sonnenberg Agency, LLC was founded by Maynard Sonnenberg in 1983. He passed away in 2001.

Maynard believed that there was a need for a trusted insurance partner and advisor for the hardworking

farmers of Northeast Colorado – their agency started by writing crop insurance policies.

Since their founding in 1983 and into their 40th year in business, Sonnenberg Agency, LLC has grown to be

a full-service insurance agency. It is what Maynard envisioned – a trusted insurance partner. They offer

service, commitment, and professionalism for their 2,300+ clients in Colorado and Nebraska. Their agents are

knowledgeable about insurance and the insurance industry, and it is their goal to offer first-class customer

service to all their clients.

Insurance can be a tough industry, and the Sonnenberg Agency, LLC recognizes that people do business

with people they trust. Everyone has different insurance needs, and they strive to meet those needs by

partnering with their nationally recognized companies.

Sonnenberg Agency, LLC offers insurance coverage for: Home & Auto, Farm & Ranch, Commercial, Crop, Livestock, Flood, Sprinkler and Nursery (trees and shrubs).

Sonnenberg Agency, LLC is presently owned by Tim Sonnenberg and Sam Sonnenberg (Maynard’s sons),

Jared Sonnenberg (Maynard’s grandson), Darin Wecker and Travis Davis. Other team members: Coree Miller,

Linda Wilson, Renee Little and Laurie Nitchman.

Sonnenberg Agency, LLC’s home office is located at 302 N. 3rd St. in Sterling with satellite locations in

Strasburg and Grand Junction. For more information contact them at 970-522-1681, or their Website:

Small Business Forecast Is “Sunny”

The small business forecast for this week is partly sunny. Good news is that fewer small businesses are predicting a recession, inflation seems to be easing, and there are more job applicants in the hiring pool. Bad news is that uncertainty over inflation, worker shortages, interest rates, and government intrusion are keeping clouds in the forecast. What it means: Small business optimism is bolstered by speculation that interest rates won’t continue to rise and that inflation reached its peak last year. Worker shortages may be the new normal and small employers are considering growth strategies that aren’t overly dependent on hiring more employees.

Legislators Want To Ramp Up Protections

As construction companies desperately seek new workers to build homes and infrastructure, Colorado legislators want to ramp up protections to ensure they are paid for their labor, announcing the coming introduction of a bill to crack down further on wage theft. The proposal — rolled out at a news conference by House Majority Leader Monica Duran, D-Wheat Ridge — largely mirrors a law passed by Denver City Council in early 2023 that allows workers to demand pay from general contractors if subcontractors fail to render full wages. While the Denver law applies to all industries, Duran said in an interview that her bill will focus solely on construction firms as a way to test a new initiative that she believes will spread to other sectors in time. About 180,000 Colorado residents work in construction — a number that industry leaders are trying to boost to 220,000 by 2027 to meet the demand for new housing and take advantage of available short-term federal funding for roads and other infrastructure. State leaders too are trying to boost sector workforce, including it on a short list of industries in a 2023 law where prospective workers can get tuition-free training and awarding several grants through the Opportunity Now program to develop new pathways into the profession.

Bill Targets Wage Theft In Construction

Business Will Play Offense And Defense

Business leaders prepared for a seemingly unrelenting stream of proposed regulations, limits on fossil-fuel production and added costs to employers as the 2023 legislative session began. They got all they expected, but somehow managed to fight many bills off. Now, as the Legislature prepares to begin its 2024 session on Wednesday, those same business leaders are approaching the 120-day period with two frames of mind. Many are expecting that legislators whose business-opposed initiatives died or got watered down last year will come back with chips on their shoulders and bills that could prove even more burdensome to employers. Proposed mandates around air-quality permitting could get tougher, a defeated effort to limit restaurants’ scheduling practices could affect more industries and discussions about property-tax reform could lead to tax-rate hikes on short-term rentals. But there is hope too, with a politically toxic atmosphere raising questions over the fate of any controversial bill, that this could be the year to team with Republicans, emboldened moderate Democrats and Gov. Jared Polis to pass consensus legislation to boost the business atmosphere. Polis is leading the charge to bolster a workforce-development system that isn’t working for too many employers, a bill is coming to streamline business-led efforts to remove carbon from the air and more majority-party Democrats are calling for construction-defects reform.
