Bomgaars is the Logan County Chamber of Commerce’s Member of the Week. Accepting the honor are Bomgaars representatives Brian Grauberger, Tasha Bird, Tristan Trahern, Jamie Holleran, Sarah Morgison, Liz Quint,Manager Deb Baker, Michael Peterson, Assistant Manager Kelly Nestor, Skyler Armstrong, Moises Rivas, Melvin Venable, Mike Tait and Payton Montoya and (not pictured) many more of dedicated staff.
...Bomgaars is a family owned and operated farm and ranch retailer that was started by W.H. Bomgaars. It is currently owned/operated by the third and fourth generations of the Bomgaars family. Their company was founded in the late 1940's in Sioux City, Iowa as an automotive parts supplier and has grown over the years to add farm, ranch, and home goods as well as general merchandise.
...As Bomgaars company expanded to western Nebraska and Colorado, they found the opportunity to open a new location in Sterling that was formerly Walmart. This was a great space for them to make it their own and allowed them the opportunity to expand their footprint into northeast Colorado to serve the needs of farm and ranch customers throughout the area.
...Bomgaars' Sterling location was opened for business in November of 2011 as the 60th store out of 180 locations. With a moderate amount of remodeling, they were able to open this store and fill it up with a wide variety of merchandise as well as display many additional products that didn't fit into their smaller locations.
...With more than 66,000 square feet of retail space and as a farm/ranch and general merchandise retailer, Bomgaars carries a multitude of products totaling at least 100,000 skus in over 14 major departments. This includes lawn and garden with a nursery, clothing and footwear, farm, pet, automotive supplies, paint, hardware, tools, housewares, toys, sporting and most recently in the Sterling location firearms.
...In addition, Bomgaars also offers special order products, in-store assembly, and propane tank exchanges.
...Bomgaars is located at 102 N 12th Ave., Sterling, CO 80751. For more information contact them at (970) 522-2612 or at their website: bomgaars.com.

Colorado Chamber A National Finalist
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation named The Colorado Chamber Foundation a finalist in the 2023 Citizens Awards, a long-standing program that honors purpose-driven businesses for their leadership in solving the world’s biggest challenges. The Colorado Chamber was nominated for the Best Civics Engagement Program for its work showing middle school students “Civics in Action.” “The Colorado Chamber is honored to have been acknowledged for our commitment to promoting civic engagement and education,” said Colorado Chamber President and CEO Loren Furman. “Providing our 2023 Civics Bee Finalists with unique opportunities to witness ‘Civics in Action’ not only serves to recognize their outstanding achievements but also underscores our dedication to nurturing informed and engaged citizens in our great state.” For more than two decades, this annual awards program has recognized the most innovative and impactful corporate citizenship initiatives that leverage a company’s talent, resources, and expertise to improve communities.

Report Identifies Ways To Boost Workforce
A newly formed coalition of business organizations issued a report calling for employers and educational leaders to work in closer collaboration to reduce the shortages of skilled talent plaguing companies across the state. In its report, the Education to Employment Alliance noted the portion of Colorado students seeking a degree or certificate beyond high school fell to less than 50% in 2021, even as the state has found 91.4% of jobs that pay family-sustaining wages need an advanced certification. And it noted that while there continue to be about 200,000 available jobs in the state — roughly two for every out-of-work Coloradan — there have remained about 90,000 unemployed state residents throughout the year, speaking to the mismatch between needed and available skills. To try to improve the state’s workforce-development pipeline, the five members of the alliance — the Colorado Chamber of Commerce, Colorado Inclusive Economy, Colorado Succeeds, the Colorado Technology Association and Colorado Thrives — outlined five recommendations. And while the recommendations deal with topics ranging from better measurements of student outcomes to financial aid for private-sector apprenticeships, they focus on the high-level themes that better coordination is needed between schools and workplaces, more support is needed for smaller businesses and evolving training pathways need greater priority.

Work Chambers Do Every Day
Support Your Local Chamber of Commerce Day, which takes place on the third Wednesday of every October, is a great time to highlight the work that chambers do every day to promote free enterprise, boost the economy, and celebrate their local communities. State and local chambers of commerce provide a community for local business owners – hosting workshops, networking events, and mentorship opportunities. In addition, by bringing businesses together over common issues of concern, they play a critical role in strengthening the collective voice of their members and promoting pro-business policies at the local and state level. Join us in thanking your local chamber of commerce for their work today and every day.

Small Businesses Need Certainty
Later this month, the top small business leaders from around the country who make up the U.S. Chamber’s Small Business Council will travel to Capitol Hill for their annual fly-in.Every small business may have different “asks” from Congress, ranging from tax policy to workforce challenges to the request that the federal government simply leave them alone. This year, a common thread among the small business founders and owners visiting our nation’s capital is the need for certainty. Whether its stability in tax policy, trade policy, or a steady stream of employment-based visas they can rely on, small business owners are looking for reassurance that they can operate their businesses without having to worry about unnecessary changes from the government. The Chair of our Small Business Council Natalie Kaddas echoes the frustration of thousands of small business owners who are calling for the reinstatement of the research and development (R&D) tax deduction. For nearly 70 years, businesses have been able to immediately deduct 100% of their R&D expenses, which can include costs associated with the development, testing, and improvement of products and services. Tax reform that lowered rates for businesses and individuals six years ago changed the rule to provide that R&D costs incurred in tax years beginning after Dec. 31, 2021 must be capitalized and amortized over several years instead of deducted in the year incurred.

Family Fun Saturday Nov. 4
It's that time of year again: time for the leaves to be changing, crisp cool air, roaring fires and "Turkey dinner!" The Overland Trail Museum has a problem.. It started wit a few "mysterious feathers," and then a faint "gobble gobble," but now the museum and its village are being overtaken by terrified turkeys trying to hide from the festivities! We need your help to locate all the hysterical birds before they get into any more mischief! Crafts/activities will also be available!
