The Washington Post reports on a new app that creatives are flocking to in order to keep their work away from heavily AI-driven social feeds. Cara has grown its user base from 40,000 to 650,000 in a week because of its focus on protecting artists and their work from being stored in AI databases.

Request for Qualifications: West Harbor Waterfront Public Art

Angels Gate Cultural Center (the designated Public Art Advisor for the West Harbor Waterfront Development in San Pedro, CA), is seeking multiple proposals for public art of various mediums, including but not limited to, murals, large scale sculpture, sound art, digital art projections / video displays, and multi-sensory experiences. Selected projects will demonstrate unique artistic perspectives and approaches that are interested in investigating the Port of Los Angeles and topics relevant to our local diverse communities that call San Pedro home. This opportunity seeks applications from professional artists/artist-teams based in California. All applicants must be over the age of 18. Artists must be eligible to work in the United States and have a valid U.S. Social Security or Tax Identification Number by the application deadline. The Request for Qualifications is open to all eligible artists, the Request for Proposals is by invitation only.

Deadline: July 8, 2024 at 11:59PM PST

Project Budget: $1,000 - $80,000

Call for Applications: Sight/Geist: Film and Performance

The Shelley & Donald Rubin Foundation is excited to announce an open call for its fourth season of Sight/Geist, a series that supports emerging NYC-based film and performance artists. Submissions will be for fall-winter 2024-25 programming at The 8th Floor, the Foundation’s gallery near Union Square. The primary applicant must be at least 18 years old, maintain their primary residence in New York City, and self-identify as an “emerging” artist (this can mean any age over 18, including early-career, self-trained, newly graduated, and those currently enrolled in undergraduate/graduate programs). Proposals should have experimental and/or pedagogical approach to the Foundation’s mission of art and social justice.

Grant: $300 - $1,000
