October 1-15 marks the last half of National Hispanic Heritage Month. Each year from September 15 to October 15, Americans observe this month by celebrating Hispanic and Latinx history and culture. Here are a few ways you can engage with Hispanic and Latinx cultural offerings in the Denver metro area over the next few weeks:

• See Wolf at the Door at Su Teatro
• Swing by Museo de las Americas for its First Friday Hispanic Heritage Month celebration
• Learn more about the Costa Rica: Long Live Peace and Labor exhibit at Museo de las America's Costa Rica Curators and Artists' Talk, ConectArte.
• Celebrate Día de los Muertos at CHAC Gallery's new space with the opening of a new exhibit, Life, Death, and Rebirth: Vida, Muerte, y Renacimiento
• Attend Flamenco Denver's signature RAICES performance.
• Visit Longmont Museum's Día de los Muertos exhibition featuring ofrendas by community members and local artists.

Free Days/Events

Organizations from across the metro area provide hundreds of free days and free programs each year made possible, in part, by funding from SCFD. Some organizations are free every day such as Broomfield Veterans Museum, Foothills Art Center, Colorado Music Hall of Fame, The Aurora History Museum and the Louisville History Museum. Here’s a small sample of what’s on tap for October.

SCFD’s County Cultural Councils make funding recommendations for annual SCFD funds in each of the district’s partner counties. All members are local volunteers appointed by the county’s commissioners or city councils. Learn more here.

SCFD Board of Directors News

The SCFD is governed by a board of directors with representation from district member counties Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas, and Jefferson. The board oversees district funding and ensures the district is running the way voters intended. The board meets eight times a year and all meetings are open to the public.
