More Jobs and Better Pay leads to more Buyer Demand

There’s been talk about a recession for quite a while now. But the economy has been remarkably resilient. Why? One reason is employment and wages have stayed strong. Let’s look at the latest information on each one and why both are good news if you’re thinking about selling your house.

More Jobs Are Being Created
Instead of facing the job losses typical of any recession, the economy has been growing and adding jobs. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), 187,000 jobs were created in July, which is up from the 185,000 created in June. That means more people are finding work. In fact, so many jobs are being added that the unemployment rate is far lower than the long-term average of 5.7% (see chart below. Home Siding

One of the most frequent questions I get from building clients are the different options for house siding. In today's market, and in this area, these are the three most popular options to consider.

Cedar Clapboard
This traditional type of product has been used for over a hundred years has proven to be very durable and creates a very nice finished product. The downsides to cedar or any type of real wood siding is they are costly to install and require significantly more maintenance than other common options. This siding along with all other wood siding products will require maintenance such as staining, painting and making sure it is not a target of insects or other animals.

Vinyl Siding
Vinyl siding has been around for about 40 years. The benefits of this siding is that it is relatively inexpensive to install, very low maintenance, and extremely durable. Vinyl siding has become the go to product for most lower to mid- range houses as it’s a great value. It is very easy to install comes in a number of color options and will generally last a lifetime.

Fiber Cement Siding
This is a relatively new product that has been on the market for about 15 or 20 years. A commonly known fiber cement company is Hardie plank and has become synonymous with the Kleenex of fiber cement siding. The term fiber cement means that the product is actually made by mixing a recycled wood product with a lightweight concrete. This produces is an extremely durable product that is virtually maintenance free and has all of the looks and appearance of real wood siding. Most of the fiber cement sidings on the market today come with factory finished paint that is guaranteed for 20 years. Due to the fact that the product is mostly cement, and not wood, it is impervious to insect damage, does not absorb moisture and will not require frequent painting or staining. Fiber cement siding has become extremely popular in today's building and renovation markets. It is widely known to create the highest return on investment of any type of renovation project. The return on investment is typically greater than 100% of the cost of the installation.
