Known simply as the “Sinatra House,” in Point Pleasant Beach, the home is the residence of the late Paul R. Smith, a former Sony Music Distribution chairman and an enormous fan of Frank Sinatra’s music and voice. Smith decided to share his love with other people by playing his idol’s songs through outdoor speakers on his property, a tradition that his children do their best to keep alive ever since Smith passed away in 2002.

Home Foundation Options

Foundations are necessary for homes in the northeast with basements. There are primarily 4 types of foundations and this article talks about the 3 most common 'basement' foundation options.

Concrete Block
A block foundation sits on reinforced concrete footings. Cinder blocks are stacked precisely and cemented with mortar. Then the blocks are filled with poured concrete and sometimes blocks are reinforced with rebar. Concrete block foundations are one of the most inexpensive types of foundation. There is no limit to the size or shape of the foundation and has been a very popular choice for years.

Poured Concrete
Concrete home foundations are the most popular in the northeast. To create these, a hole is excavated and footers are poured below the frost line, just like a slab. Wooden forms are placed to provide shape to the foundation walls, and then concrete is poured into the forms. When the concrete in the walls has set, more concrete is poured to form the floor. Homes built on poured concrete foundations can have basements ranging in size from a crawlspace to 10’ high ceilings and are one of the strongest foundation options.

Name brands such as Superior Walls have made these home foundations very popular in recent years. Instead of footings, the basement is excavated and an intricate layering system of sand, gravel, rocks, and vapor/moisture barriers is placed at the bottom. The foundation walls are made off-site in segments with special machinery to cure the concrete in a quick and controlled process. Some of these precast segments may have insulation and studs preinstalled (for wiring and drywalling the basement). These precast segments are delivered on-site, lowered into place, and locked together. The basement floor is then poured with concrete. These foundations tend to be more pricey than poured concrete or block. They can be totally customizable, are less labor intensive, and the installation process is much faster.

Don't expect a Flood of Foreclosures

The rising cost of just about everything from groceries to gas right now is leading to speculation that more people won’t be able to afford their mortgage payments. And that’s creating concern that a lot of foreclosures are on the horizon. While it’s true that foreclosure filings have gone up a bit compared to last year, experts say a flood of foreclosures isn’t coming...click here for full article
