This Old House

One of the first home improvement shows started back in 1979,
called "The Old House" with hosts Norm Abram and Bob Vila.

The pilot show featured a run-down 1860 house in Dorchester, MA,
that cost $17,000 to buy and $30,000 to renovate.

Since then, the show has created many spin-off shows, magazines,
17 Emmy awards, 82 nominations and recently celebrated it's
40 year anniversary on the air.

Buyers are Regaining some of their Negotiation Power in Today's Housing Market

If you’re thinking about buying a home today, there’s welcome news. Even though it’s still a sellers’ market, it’s a more moderate sellers’ market than last year. Ashley Grace Builders is proud to showcase our first home at Mountain Court Estates

Almost 2 years ago Ashely Grace Builders started on the infrastructure of a five home sub-division, Mountain Court Estates in Pompton Plains. We've included some updates on the progress in past Doug Talks articles, and we are coming down to the finish line on these beautiful properties.

Most of these homes have interiors completed including major home systems, appliances, cabinetry, counters, painting and flooring. The exteriors have the finished façades of either stone and/or siding. One of the last items to complete these custom homes is landscaping; sod and plantings. However, before a homeowner can occupy the home, the builder must apply for a CO (Certificate of Occupancy). This is a legal document through the Bureau of Housing that concludes a final safety inspection.

Thank you to the Ashley Grace Builders employees, vendors, and clients who graciously dealt with supply chain obstacles from the pandemic. Our clients are thrilled to being moving in soon and making these spaces their new homes.
This home featured above was designed by Dave Ewald of JJH Architects and
Jenna Alazio of Curated Cottage Interior Design.

The "Doug Talks..." section will be featured in our monthly real estate email
and will include articles and/or videos showcasing some aspect of
home improvement, construction, or design.

Barns are Traditionally Red for a Reason

Farmhouses and barns across America are traditionally red, but that’s not by accident. Farmers, ever a thrifty bunch, experimented to find cheap ways to make paint. They used what they had on hand: lime, milk, and red iron oxide (what we commonly call rust) and mixed it all together. Voila, they made a nice red paint—and at a bargain!
